  1. On Sept. 12 in Denver there’s a benefit concert for Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) research. All proceeds go to this cause. It is sponsored by Ayre Acoustics. Some of you know of Charles Hansen, president of Ayre, who was injured some years ago and is paralyzed from the chest down. Ayre was instrumental in the design of Neil Young’s Pono player. We will have four Pono players and Sennheiser Momentum headphones to demo. This will be the only preview event in the Denver area before the first shipment of 12,000 units in October. The Pono raffle winner will take home a set of Sennheiser Momentum headphones as well as the certificate (signed by Neil Young) that entitles the winner to a unit to be delivered in Q1 2015. Total value = $400 + $300 = $700. The concert itself includes performances by international piano soloist Katie Mahan, former Colorado Symphony Orchestra first cellist Jurgen de Lemos, and the Musica Sacra chamber orchestra. More details are available at Ayre Acoustics or Katie Mahan Foundation - Home. Full disclosure: I’m a friend of Katie and Charles as well as a longtime Asylum member, and am helping to organize the event. Everyone involved is working “pro bono” so this is not a commercial advertisement, but rather an invitation to enjoy an evening of great music making and to demo the Pono player (and maybe win one), while simultaneously benefiting a worthy case. I hope to see some of you there.
