  1. I just ordered this DAC and a tube to try out in it -WE 396A. Has this DAC been discussed here yet? Thx Dave
  2. I'm sure it's been discussed ad nauseum so if someone could provide me with a couple of links to topics discussing the optimizing of Vista for audio it would be much appreciated. Also, I might be buying a new laptop with Windows 7. Any discussions on the merits of 7 verses Vista? I'm currently running a Dell Inspiron 1525 with Vista / Media Monkey Gold / Edirol UA-25 / Virtue M-901. I've just ordered a Grant Fidelity DAC-09 so I can put the Edirol back into my DAW. Has there been any comment here on this unit? Thx much Dave
  3. Thx WG It's amazing what you can learn on the net with a little time on your hands. I believe after some reading last nite that my USB2 is probably a lot farther down on my list of next-to-do upgrades. Actually, I'm thinking I am going to start back at he A.C. and work from there. Have a great day! Dave
  4. Please excuse the newbyish question, but is a soundcard not a also DAC? I have an Edirol UA-25 that I use with my SONAR DAW set-up. It has USB as well as Toslink and balanced analog inputs and I've been using it to listen to all my music that I have on my laptop as well. Thx Dave
  5. I'm sitting here in camp browsing the forums and what not like I do. I see the Fire wire is quite superior in bandwidth / speed to my USB connection and I'm wondering how to possibly improve what I have now: My laptop is my source playing my music with Monkeymedia Gold through my USB2 connection to an Edirol UA-25 soundcard, then on to the amp. I've been bitten by the audiophile bug and even the DIY stuff a bit and I have a not too bad set up; GR N3 speakers with outboard Ninja'd crossovers, some DIY cabling, a Virtue M-901 on batteries (steroids)(Mediocre pic attached). I was just trying to figure out a better connection than my USB2 to my soundcard. It has a Toslink input and my TV has a Toslink output which is fed from my laptops HDMI connection. Anybody care to explain why this is not a good, or at least, not a better connection in terms of bandwidth / speed than the USB? Is there another solution to go from my laptop to my soundcard via Toslink? Thx Dave
