    Sorry to necro this thread but it came up when I was searching for an exact solution to this problem. As mentioned above aMPD will work over wifi just fine on an old android device. With Mount manager you can ever access the music over a NAS. A guide can be found here in case anybody wants a quick and dirty solution. I contacted the dev and apparently a full port of MPD to Android is in the works though it is only experimental at this stage.

    So I finally set up an MPD and am using mpdroid to control but I keep having to create playlists from scratch each time. Is there a windows program to create playlists for mpd so they stick?
