  2. Well, that made my eyes glaze over! I have a minimal understanding of electronics...but am learning little by little. Frankly, I do not understand the difference between "floating" and "sinking" ?. i.e., "earth" grounds as they relate to audio. I do not know if this can be done but would it be possible to identify what devices powered by SMPS and/or LPS and/or battery would benefit from their DC cables having JSGT treatment? Maybe not that cut and dried but hoping...

  4. Boy, things sure have been quiet around here! Given the fair number of SMPS's with JSGT treatment in my system, I purchased a Tripplite extender strip. However, I am wondering which of my options would be best for powering the strip as I do not know if the SMPS's would feed noise back thru the system... 1) One of the taps on my PSAudio P300 regenerator; 2) One of the taps on my PSAudio Quintessence which filters but does not regenerate; 3) Directly into the wall outlet with no conditioning; Also, I know that JSGT is recommended for SMPS's but does treatment serve any use for LPS's? Thanks.

  6. Edit of myself... Based on my reading various articles on PCM filters particularly those posted by Archimago, I have switched to use of the FRLP filter and find it be more extended and open than the SRMP>
  7. Sorry for the confusion... My intended meaning was that regenerator does 2 things: 1) Provides clean power to component(s); 2) Given my understanding that digital components can backfeed noise into the mains, the regenerator can mitigate this;
  8. I would agree with tboooe. Get your existing system sounding as you can with clean power before embarking on other changes. Maybe not as visually exciting as new component(s) but one I did in my own setup. I have 2 dedicated duplex outlets which have 10AWG "homeruns" to the master panel. I use an original PSAudio P300 to power all front end devices, i.e., Manhattan II DAC, Esoteric UX-3 universal player, and custom built LDR-based preamp. Pass XA60.8 amps are driven directly from 1 of the duplexes. Miscellaneous power supplies, etc. are fed by a PSAudio Quintessence. IMO use of a regenerator facilitates not only providing clean power to the front end devices but also mitigates feeding noise back into the mains. Both a friend and myself feel that using a regenerator such as P3, P5, etc., may compromise sound of a system but YMMV.

  10. Almost! From evoxinc.com... PTFE heat shrink tubing requires approximately 650 °F ± 25 °F (340 °C ± 5 °C) to initiate shrinkage. While this is a liberally safe range, these temperatures are approximate.
  11. I have read a lot about DIYing USB cables and even bought "audiophile" Type A & B connectors, wire, etc., for fabbing. However, after further investigation I learned that it is difficult to meet the differential impedance spec of 90 ohms since measurement requires expensive equipment. Figured there was no point in experimenting with construction configurations when I could not meet a basic specification! Do not know for sure but I am guessing that some of the differences heard in USB cables is due not only to how the cable is constructed but whether or not it meets the USB impedance spec. Before I bought the Pangea double headed USB cable, I had Acoustic Sounds contact Pangea and I got a written confirmation that it does meet spec.
