  1. "Get two subs, not just one." I also have Harbeth in my study but it is a small room, in that case, is there a benefit to having 2 subs?
  2. +2 and indeed the reviews reflect my impression of this great great album. Here is one more;
  3. One more good review of the Carmen Gomes album; "This album deserves recognition as one of the best vocal albums released in 2023. If you're a blues fan, get this album. If you love female vocals, get this album. If you simply enjoy great music-making, get this album. Did I say this enough? Get this album. You'll love it. The album is 15 tracks of pure enjoyment—excellent contemporary blues that honors the traditions of the genre and the music of Robert Johnson Carmen Gomes Inc. previously paid tribute to blues great Robert Johnson on their excellent album Up Jumped The Devil, released in 2020. With Stones in My Passway, Gomes Inc. moves to a higher level of music interpretation. Her phrasing, dynamics and inflection are simply remarkable. She sings directly, honestly, without unnecessary embellishment or vocal manipulation. Her sultry delivery of inspired interpretations of this music immerses one into the soundscape being created by the collaborative work of Gomes and her band members. And the work of her accompanying band members truly shines in this recording. The percussion work of drummer Bert Kamsteeg makes a strong contribution, often a central one, complementing the vocals of Gomes. Contributions from guitarist Folker Tettero and double-bassist Peter Bjørnild are equally strong. These four musicians are beautifully in sync, consistently complementing and extending each other's contributions to the music. The recording quality is among the best recordings I've heard from Sound Liaison recording engineer Frans de Rond. And he's made quite a few of my favorite recordings. But, when recording Carmen Gomes, Frans seems to rise to yet another level. Frans has been Carmen Gomes' preferred recording engineer for 27 years for good reason!
  4. Click on the image to go to the album “The music is vibrant, moving, immediate, and subtle… A beautiful album.” Le Soir “The bass, instead of being a routine component of the rhythm section, has become the main compositional voice of the group.”DownBeat "This is so well recorded that turning up the volume knob significantly never makes the music too loud, only more intense. With this release, an impressively good album has been added to Carmen's discography. My suggestion is to buy both part one (Up Jumped The Devil) and part two (Stones in My Passway as they don't fall short of each other and only become more precious with time.” ‘JazzFliets’ "This album deserves recognition as one of the best vocal albums released in 2023. If you're a blues fan, get this album. If you love female vocals, get this album. If you simply enjoy great music-making, get this album. Positive Feedback, USA
  5. Yes the Sound Liaison One Mic recordings are a modern great sounding version of the concept. Lot's of posts about them here. Sound Liaison - One Mic Recordings article by Joe Whip In the 1950's there was something called 'living stereo' those LPs still gets praised.
  6. Very interesting! are these available anywhere download or streaming?
  7. Native DSD Album of the Year 2023 ; You can vote HERE, Album of the YEAR. Good but sometimes strange selection to vote on, as an example see the vocal selection; It contains 2 albums recorded and released in 2023; The personal favorite of mine and a few others here on this forum; 'STONES IN MY PASSWAY' by CARMEN GOMES INC. and Ayanna Witter-Johnson & the LSO Percussion Ensemble interesting live recording; But the next two are more problematic. Patricia Barber's Modern Cool may be new to the NATIVE DSD's website, but it was released in 1998. ( I must add that it's a great album and one of my favorite Patricia albums but it was my choice of album of the year back in 1998 😀) The last in the vocal section is a compilation of; "Jazz Legends like Billie Holiday, Ben Webster, Bucky Pizzarelli, and Sarah Vaughan, alongside Today’s Jazz Stars such as Aubrey Logan, Bill Cantos, Diana Panton, Holly Cole, Polly Gibbons and The L.A. Network." All good but to me that's not an album....it's a playlist....ok, I could listen to Shirley Horn singing 'Dindi' all night but I prefer to put on the original album and not have Shirley mixed up with tracks featuring electronic keyboards such as Aubrey Logan's The Remembering Song, they don't fit together in my opinion and again to call a playlist a, ALBUM,...hmm.
  8. I always liked the combination of ''old European tradition'' with New York creative spirit.
  9. What I line up! How did I miss this album, I have never heard it before THANKS!
  10. It's BandCamp Friday. I'll be getting a bunch of Compact Disks for Christmas gifts for my old-fashioned friends. These 2 go well together;
  11. That album is one of the first albums I put on as well when listening to new equipment. It's a classic. carmen-gomes-inc-thousand-shades-of-blues
