After not touching much in my main audio system for many years, I went through a flurry of changes in 2020, 2021. Spent a fair amount of money. And I'd like to be done with that part! :) I am extremely happy with the sound, but would like to augment the low end, in the lowest octave or octave and a half.
What I'm using...
PC-based source ( external HDDs, Quboz )
Audio Lab CD transport
Denafrips Pontus II DAC
Bryston BP26 preamp
Van Alstine Vision SET 400 amp
B&W Series 80 801s, restored ( rebuilt XO boards )
The 801s sound great, but they "only" go down, solidly, to 40 Hz and then some, below that.
I have a sealed box I built (I designed it, was built for me ) that I was going to use in a car, but then set that plan aside.
I'd like to use it as a sub with my home setup. The box was built with 1" Baltic birch plywood and has a JLAudio 13.5".
So how to cross it over? Though I like "audiophile grade" equipment, I'm done with laying out big $.
Looking for a simple, fairly inexpensive electronic crossover, though I know nothing about them ( what's out there, what's good ) and how to implement it. Obviously, I want the level of the sub tied into the volume of the system, so I guess the XO would come after the preamp?
Does anybody have any ideas and suggestions on this, that might help?
Thanks,
Scott
PS Forgot, I'd be using a spare amp to power the sub.
