  1. Hello Phil & Forum, quickly decided, and moved to W10 Pro which easily gor me rid of OneDrive and Defender now I'd be interested to get your experiences on how many processes/threads/handles you are getting in average. My dedicated system with JPlay installed, JPlay server and Remote Desktop and Services kept in AO and player not started yet is showing 38P / 600T / 13.500H. Feels like a lot, but maybe really normal with W10P. I'm picking huge is up as it seems a difference to WS - while testing it, I had about half the numbers. Most importantly, the sound is stunning in any way. Cheers!
  2. Salü Phil, thanks and clear, I might actually really need to go shopping for Pro then to further slim down the system and get rid of nagging MS update pop ups. Michael p.s. to jcn3 - was in Ultimate, I believe with Phil's answer now fully clarified
  3. First of all, the AO upgrade to v2 is phantastic! I'm running it on an W10 Home install. While reading about some limitations, I'm wondering how to get rid of OneDrive and Defender. Still here and no questions asked during AO install (and no mention in the manual hat his is a Home limitation Same behaviour for 2.0 and the 2.1 beta 4. Thanks for a hint on that!
  4. I can speak only of the Streacom NC2, which I used. The heatsink is recessed about one or two mm to perfectly fit with the original pad. It may not have any contact to the sink without it.
  5. hi iamimdoc, ad 1/ JRMark 1571 on D54250 NUC ad 2/ Yes. ad 3/ Yes. Paste comes with the Streacom case. getting the fan off needs a little force to break the old paste, the just wipe off with cotton swab & a little alcohol or lighter fluid or similar. Apply a thin and steady layer of new paste and make sure it sits well. don't touch white the pad on the GPU! The case / heat pipe will fit perfectly. I get idle temperatures of approx. 44 Celsius in 25 environment. Goes up to pretty hot 62-63 at 7-8% constant load while playing. ad 4/ Not much. RAM flips right in, same for mSATA SSD and WiFi if you buy it. NUC WiFi Antennas can be reused. Just make sure you're not static, touch a heater or anything grounded often. Happy building!
  6. About JRiver volume control: is there any way to get a linear curve for the slider? Currently it feels that volume up in the low percentages increases only slowly while getting closer to 100 the increases get much stronger. The other way round, sensitivity for going down from 100 is very high, perceived half volume already at 75-80ish.
  7. Easy. Connect the setup hardwired to a switch or to the router, use an ipad with JRemote. Can't be beaten in my opinion. Alternatively go for Windows Remote Desktop (you'll need a Win 8.1 Pro or Server 2012 R2) or use VNC software like tightvnc. I have a similar build as Chris suggested and am very happy! D54250 board, Streacom NC2 fanless case, 16 GB crucial memory and a 256 mSATA for OS only, music on a NAS omni-accessible. External linear supply currently being shipped. Enjoy building!
  8. I'm running the mentioned really nice combo - problem is, after a few hours of listening (JPlay, ~8% continuous systemload), it will freeze and crash. Happens with both Win8.1 and WS2012. Temperatures are ~70* processor, ~80* case ambient according to BIOS, very hot to touch case! Well ventilated area, room temperature ~25*. What are your experiences? Specific BIOS settings or OS settings to prevent overheating? Looking forward to your experience! p.s. Daphile runs with low 45-48*, no issues therefore I exclude building mistakes.
  9. Yalla, Chris! It's been a week and we're curious! Looking very much forward to see the NUC Maroubra design! Thanks for all the work and brain going into this project!
  10. solved: typo in address... 192.168.xx.xxx:/ and entering an identification... working like a charm now!
  11. I reale like Daphile and have been using it for a while. Some trouble, though with the new 14.10 version. Used the 14.09 as a full install from a unetbootin created USB stick to an un partitioned second stick for a while. Worked beautiful, also with updates. With 14.10 update, I got error messages that the last version can't be loaded and the previous (14.09) will be used instead. A fresh reinstall loads everything well again, it seems. Can't access my network shares anymore, though (cifs://192.168.xx.xxx/music. on a static NAS IP address). It's perfectly accessible with Win on the corresponding \ path. Battery Indicator worked before and is permanently showing 0% now. Additionally, 14.09 had the possibility to clock to 800mhz, which I fail to find. Appreciate any input!
  12. What did the trick for me after lot's of trial-and-error and reading: - USB Driver: instead of recommended min. latency back to default setting, safe mode - Additional setting in the registry, JPlay: Driverbuffer = 2 instead of 0 All other settings as per script. JPlay in UltraStream, Throttle On, Kernel Streaming, all buffers Direct. CPU load at 32%. Very marginal clicks and pops when the CPU spikes or browsing too fast on JRemote. Fully solved and smooth with reverting the recommended JPlay ASIO driver setting back from 0 Latency, No Hardware Buffer to Initial settings with 50ms and Hardware Buffer enabled. 13. Hello Scott, I followed your recommendations for Win8 and Software setup step by step. Before running the script, Jriver+Jplay+JRemote worked very smooth. After running the script, I get clicks and pops every once in a while, timing seems squeezed and stretched at times. This is very heavy if JRemote builds up album art. Adjustments to any buffer size - in the Dac driver, in Jplay or in Jriver - do not change the behavior, no matter which settings I played with. Any idea where else the root of the cause may be? Thanks a lot! p.s. running un a laptop with Intel su7300, ssd, wifi off, lan connected via airport express Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  14. Would love to hear more about the specific 1k package that got to 96% of the real deal! Thanks for sharing ideas! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
