1. Dear felllow CA's I just checked the Bel Canto website and realized they just put out a model of the S300iu that incorporates a DAC that's capable of 24/96 via USB (I think it retails for $2500 new). The amp is 150W @ 8 Ohms and 300W @ 4 Ohms. Seems pretty good to me. I think this would be a good solution for many of us, since it will allow us to plug our computers directly into the amplifier without the need of an external DAC. However, is the DAC in this unit the same used in the DAC3? Does it have an internal clock that reduces jitter? Does anybody listened or own this integrated amp? I can't find a review online for this "new" model yet. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot in advance! Cheers Lucho
 2. I contacted M2tech in Italy about the USB 24/192 audio interface. The product is already available in Europe, but they will ship to anywhere in the US (I don't know the cost of shipping).
The "outside-Italy" price for this unit is 82.5 Euros. I am in Barcelona and they'll ship for 9 extra Euros. The unit uses its own drivers, and right now it will only work on "Foobar". The tech I contacted (via email) told me that they're working, as we speak, on drivers that will work on other players like Media Monkey, etc. In addition, they're also working on Mac and Lynux support.

I think 100 Euros is worth the try!

We'll see!

Thanks for your help!

Lucho
 3. Thanks a lot mtan002! I'll have a look!!
Cheers

Lucho
 4. Hi Chris,
I've been using a Trends Audio USB converter for almost two years now and it's been wonderful. Now, is there any similar product out there that is capable of doing 24/96 via USB? I'd be great if Trends Audio could offer the same product that can handle 24/96 files, but as far as I am concern, they don't intend to do it any time soon.

My budget system is:
Dell Latitude D620===>USB===>Trends Audio USB converter===>Toslink===>Paradisea v.2 USB DAC===>Cambridge Audio 840A===>Monitor Audio RS6

So, the system I have right now only does 16/44.1. The Paradisea DAC can handle 24/96 files, but only via SPID/F. So the "weak" link here is the UD-10.1.

Is there anything out there with the same features (such an internal clock) of the UD-10.1 that can handle 24/96 via USB and stays within the same price range?

Thanks a lot in advance

Lucho
 5. Hey Chris, That's just what I was looking for! Thanks a lot! I'll buy it today! Thanks again! Lucho
 6. Thanks Chris! It may be worth buying it for $5.55 and see if the Winamp remote has the features I want. This is the Microsoft remote for Windows Media Center. You can start up WMC, surf through the library, select albums, artists, songs, etc. It does everything, but it's just for WMC http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?sku=A1305038&cs=04&c=us&l=en&dgc=SS&cid=28149&lid=644180 I was looking for something like that for Winamp. Maybe the Winamp remote from Tekgems does all that....I'll give it a try and order one today. I'll keep looking, though. Just in case I don't like it or doesn't work....I read it has problems with Winamp 5.xx versions... We'll see. Thanks again Lucho
 7. Anyone else out there? Any help? Thanks Cheers Lucho
 8. Hey Chris, I forgot to mention that since I already have an 160GB iPod my wife got it for me last december (and she's got a 60GB!), I am OK with iPods for right now I am not against the iPod as a remote at all. I thought about it, the thing is that I was looking for something like the remote control Microsoft has for Windows Media Center, for example, but for Winamp. Is there someting like that out there yet? Something similar? Other options? Thanks a lot! Lucho
 9. Hey all, I am a newbie trying to put a music server (using a laptop PC) together. Since I have all my music files in FLAC format, I use Winamp simply because IMHO it's the best media player out there for FLAC support (playback, album art, tag information, etc) So, I lately encountered a minor problem: Remote control for Winamp. I would like to be able to access to Winamp in order to listen to the music I want from my couch. I'd like to be able to select artists, albums, songs, specific playlists, etc. I don't care much about volume control, since I use the receiver's remote to control the volume. I know this issue has been discussed before, but it was more focused on iTunes. I just want to know what options I have to control Winamp remotely, besides an iPhone, which I can't have because I live on an island with no service for iPhone (plus I wouldn't buy an iPhone just for using it as a remote control!) I know there are plenty of people out there using PC's with Winamp as music servers, so I'd like to know what would be "our" best options out there to access our libraries from the comfort of our couches?? : ) Any suggestions??? Thanks a lot in advance Lucho
 10. Chris, If I connect my laptop to the USB DAC and the DAC to my receiver, how can I bypass the receiver's DAC and use it just as a preamplifier/amplifier? My guess is using the option "Direct" in the receiver? Another question: if the signal coming to the receiver from the DAC is analog, does the receiver still alters the signal by using its DAC or it just amplifies it? How does this work? Sorry...I have no clue! So, coming back to my first post.....The only reason I am currently using the Edirol is because it plays the role of an external sound card, since the soundcard of my laptop is a piece of crap. I did a test last night and I played a few albums comparing two different connections: 1. Laptop to the Edirol (via USB), then Edirol to receiver via Toslink. 2. Laptop to receiver via miniplug/RCA. Connection number 1 sounded soooo much better. The difference in sound was dramatic. I could hear things that I did not hear with connection number 2. Much more clear, and warm, and the detail was incredible. So, it's this dramatic difference due to just a better connection, since the receiver is doing all the D/A conversions?, or it is because the Edirol does a better job than the internal soundcard of my laptop, so the input signal going to the receiver is better? Or both? Unfortunately, I can't connect my computer directly to the receiver via Toslink. Suggestions? Cheers Lucho
 11. Thanks Chris, The Cayin iDAC looks like a very good choice to add to my system. I'll need to save some money in order to get it, though. I can't wait! Thanks for the advice Lucho
 12. Regarding the speakers for the iPod setup...have you considered Paradigm speakers? A few months back, I was looking for bookshelf speakers and I had the chance of listening to many different brands and models at my local music store (B&W, Epos, Klipsch, etc). The Paradigms were my favorite by far. The monitor series, like the Atoms and the Mini Monitors, would be excelent speakers for your setup. Very efficient, nicely built, and their sound is amazing. Plus, they're relatively cheap. The rosenut fishish looks great. You can find a Paradigm dealear near you at the Paradigm webiste. www.paradigm.com The Atoms sell for $299 (pair) and the Mini Monitors for about $420 (pair) I hope I helped a little. Cheers Lucho
 13. So, the best option I have is to toss the Edirol and connect my laptop directly to the Paradisea+ via USB... Now that you say that, it makes sense. Do you have an idea how much the Paradisea is going to improve the SQ of my original setup (laptop-Edirol-receiver)? Is it worth the $600? Does anybody own this DAC? or another similar DAC in a similar setup? Thanks Lucho
 14. Hi all, I am new in the forum, and also new in the world of computer audiophile systems. Here's is my current setup: I am using my Dell Latitude 620 connected to a Edirol UA-1EX external interface via USB. The interface is connected to my Pioneer VSX-1017TXV-K receiver through an optical cable (Toslink). My speakers are: Fronts: Paradigm Mini Monitors Sub: Paradigm PDR-10 So, my question is regarding an update. I am thinking in buying an external DAC (Paradisea+ USB DAC). So, I have two options: 1)- to connect laptop to Paradisea+ (via USB) and Paradisea to receiver (via RCA), and toss the Edirol. 2)- to connect laptop to Edirol (via USB), Edirol to Paradisea+ (via Toslink), and Paradisea to receiver. The only pros I can see in this setup is that the Edirol is able to upsample to 24/96, so the digital input signal to the external DAC would be better than the signal coming directly from the laptop (16/44). Plus, the integrated sound card of the laptop is a piece of crap. I play only FLAC files I am right on this?? Which setup would be better, or best? Any way to improve it? Suggestions? Thanks a lot in advance Lucho
