  1. I'm running my Aries (femto) from a W4S PS-1 on 16v 1.2A. Sounds at least as good if not better than the Auralic linear PSU.
  2. Just installed 2.1. The improvement in sound quality is more than subtle, I would even say amazing... I'm listening with awe to the beautiful Joni Mitchell 'Travelogue' album. Trying to find the words to expres the differences in SQ with previous firmware version. More balanced, more open, very much together...
  3. The new Auralic Aries also streams songcast files to any DAC connectied to it. My experience of playing any source from Mac through songcast is extremely positive, much more flexible and higher SQ than Airplay.
  4. I kept the modem, since it is also taking care of VOIP services. After disabling WIFI I fed it into the new router. And as Ted rightfully suggested, it can also be done with a non-ac (just n) router which is cheaper.
  5. I had similar problems in the beginning. Replaced my old router (generic phone-company model) with a Dlink DIR-868L dual band ac/n router. Aries is playing wireless over the 5Ghz channel. All problems with communication between iPad app and Aries disappeared.
  6. The sound quality of Qobuz through Aries is amazing. It streams full 16/44 when you have the subscription. The Qobuz desktop is not used, Lightning DS uses its own interface instead. I like the interface even though some minor bugs still have to be solved and some functionality could be added (such as moving up from a track-only to the playlist of a full album).
  7. Things have improved considerably for me after upgrading my modem to a dual-band type. Aries is now wireless on the 5Ghz network and functions much better than before. Faster startup time, fewer glitches. As for SQ: listening this morning to France Musique via the radio function (128Kb stream) was a pleasure despite the 'low' quality of the stream, wide open soundstage, great extension. With these lower bitrates the differences in sound quality with the Squeezebox are less obvious but still clearly noticable.
  8. I'm sure everyone here would be very interested to hear about this very interesting comparison...
  9. After playing for a week now I can say I am very happy with the SQ. I can only compare SQ with my Squeezebox touch (with Triode EDO plug-in): SQ notably more smooth in highs, bass seems to extend further and is more "intelligible", soundstage big with very good placements of instruments and voices, general sound impression very stable and authoritative.
  10. That makes sense. What are your findings when comparing sound quality of Aries and Lumin?
  11. That looks fantastic, but wouldn't it be a better idea to wait for the Aries USB disk option? It would save a device and consequently sound better without need for extra cabling/power supply etc.
