  1. Thank you very much for your suggestion. That device does look great. I've sent an inquiry to iFi requesting some additional details on the unit, including one regarding its frequency response. It isn't listed on their site, and what discussions I've seen on the matter discuss theoretical range (0-185kHz with DXD) as well as some talk about the output being filtered; I am not clear on what the actual case is. Would you, or anyone else, know off hand this unit's frequency response?
  2. Hello all, I'm not well versed in the details surrounding audio engineering, I was hoping for some advice regarding choosing a DAC for a research project. Relevant project information involves computer programming that generates mixed and pure tones reaching towards and possibly past 50kHz. I believe we will need usb input and frequency response up to 50kHz. We are also using a pair of Sennheiser HD 800 headphones, so I'm assuming the DAC will need to have an amplifier as well. We would like to keep the cost below $500 US. Four devices I believe are satisfactory are: TEAC UD-H01 TEAC A-H01 Emotiva XDA-2 Cambridge DacMagic Plus Would anyone have any experiences working with any of these devices under similar conditions? Or does anyone know of a devices which maybe better suited? One additional question on controlling the volume programically, is such a thing possible via the USB input, or can I just modify the amplitude of the wave forms to control loudness at the output? Thank you in advance.
