fast forward to 2020...It hasn't been ALL bad. I picked up a Pulse X Infinity Special Edition for a little more than I paid for my basic Geek Pulse back at the beginning of the whole thing/ Wow, what a fantastic DAC is all I have to say. -

I'm certainly no millionaire but LH Labs has certainly disappointed me. I don't expect I'll ever receive the Pulse that I paid for. If I ever do, it will be so obsolete that I will have bought another DAC for half the price that works twice as well. Live and learn... -
Wow, you have a cable guy???

One of my best deals just happened a few weeks ago. I bought my first Marantz product, a AV7702, and loved it so much that I took to scanning ebay for whatever Marantz might come up. A vintage electronics dealer had an AV8801 for sale listed for parts or not working. I contacted him and found out that he just had not tested it. He got it at an estate sale and it was missing a few parts. It didn't have either knob, the top and side covers were missing and someone had scavenged the usb/network card. Bidding started at $100 so I put in a bid for $101.99. What the heck, if I won it and it didn't work at least it wouldn't have cost too much. In the last 6 seconds someone else tried to snipe in for $101.00. Ha! Got a $3000.00 Preamp for $101.99! I reset the microprocessor and it has worked flawlessly since. I ordered the knobs from D&M for $17 ea. and I plan to bend copper sheets for the top and side covers. The seller was a trooper and packed the preamp very well and got it to me promptly. I feel very blessed to have acquired this piece for such an awesome price.

It dawned on me at work and I tried it on my laptop, just not in the listening room
-
I recently added a couple of 18" subwoofers to reinforce the low end of my listening room. I am using a Marantz 8801 as a pre/pro, Odyssey Khartago for mids/highs and a pro amp for subwooferage. I use a 2014 Mac Mini > usb > spdif convertor > coaxial in to 8801. Using a Panasonic RP91 > coaxial > 8801 playing just rebook cds has waaayy more impact and fullness in the bass department than the Mac using Audirvana 2.0.9 playing even high rez files. Is there a setting in Audirvana that will increase bass weight and impact? Is it as simple as opening the graphic equalizer in preferences and bumping up the lower end of the frequency curve?

livelistenlearn: I experience random stops in play back ALL OF THE TIME. I avoided updating to 2.0.8 because of reports of sound quality not being as good as 2.0.6 so that is where I have stayed until people report either equal or greater sound quality than 2.0.6. Sometimes the program just freezes on the last second of the song playing. Sometimes the program just quits unexpectedly. Sometimes there is a loud beep and the program quits. Very frustrating. When it works it is marvelous. When it doesn't...

MacMini Owners: The Headless Mac Video Accelerator
edo replied to Bill Lord's topic in Music Servers
got the accelerator and now my laptop display for the headless mac mini looks a lot better. I think it sounds better, it just seems like I am adding so many tweaks every day and it gets better and better so its hard to tell what is doing what. Thanks for the suggestion of the accelerator -
I just ordered a Pulse tonight, don't think it'll be 2016 though.
