  1. What's wrong with 48khz? You won't hear the difference between 48khz and any higher sample rates anyway. The sound floor may feel deeper, but the ear won't hear above 48khz. Not that I wanted to change this thread into a debate; nevertheless, quite often i find that when 192khz tracks are downsampled to 48khz they sound better.
  2. I got mine from Crucial and it works great 16GB kit (8GBx2) DDR3 PC3-12800 Unbuffered NON-ECC 1.35V 1024Meg x 64 | Crucial USA
  3. The sound of the music coming through your computer and into your headphones or audio source has nothing to do with what type of hard drive you use! To say that it does is just rediculous. If your talking about which hard drive makes more noise, you should specifically say "Hard Drive Noise" not which hard drive sounds better.
  4. My mac mini is the late 2012 version with the firewire 800 port and my fire wire drives work very fast and well. I have read that the FW adapters work fine with mac minis and iMacs, but i have not tried them. As far as Thunderbolt drives, I fail to see the need to pay $200 more when Firewire and USB3 drives are fast enough. I do not know about firewire DACs and if they will work.
  5. The sound of your system has nothing to do with whether you are using a firewire or thunderbolt drive. You can get an adapter to switch from thunderbolt to firewire. Amazon.com: Apple Thunderbolt to FireWire Adapter: Electronics Firewire drives still function good with new mac minis. I use them with mine.
  6. I agree that each member made the whole. Its not ridiculous to have an opinion. I also feel that Clapton should have stuck to the Gibson line of electric guitars. His tone was at its best in the Sixties.
  7. Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce enabled Clapton to shine. Jack's voice was strong and confident, while Eric was just developing his vocal chords. Ginger Baker was the influence that was the most crucial in Cream. Its kind of like John Bonham, without Bonham drums their is no more Led Zeppelin. I'm not saying that drums are the most important part of a band. Cream, Zep, and The Who's Drummers were not effectively replaceable.
  8. Actually, it does still take a couple hours to sync. The first time I did it I had only added about 400 songs in 15 minutes. Still its a great system.
  9. Jriver for Mac 20 lets me sync playlists to my X3, like itunes to an ipod! I can fill up my X3 in 15 minutes, whereas it would take me a couple hours through dragging and dropping. Furthermore, file converting is great with Jriver 20 for Mac and it is very easy to convert large batches of files to different codecs. However, I have had the system crash sometimes when converting alac to flac. Files also can be LAME and DSD, which is nice. Jriver is tops!!!
  10. What a great package CSNY 1974 is! It sounds great in 16bit 44.1khz FLAC.
  11. Over 5,000 of those 9,767 shows can be downloaded in Lossless and MP3 VBR. Listen to the show before you determine such a generalized bias.
  12. There is no reason to buy live Grateful Dead, when all of their shows are in Public Domain and free downloads from the Internet Archive. Most of the shows are FLAC and MP3 VBR. 9,767 live shows https://archive.org/details/GratefulDead
  13. All the Dead live shows are available for free from the Internet Archive (Public Domain). Many of those shows are lossless FLAC. They are all free. https://archive.org/details/GratefulDead
