  1. Business law lawyer, with emphasis on commercial leasing.
  2. Count me as an enthusiastic Tidal subscriber. Just passed my first anniversary using Tidal and I think it is the best value in music out there. I've listened to more new music in the past year than ever before. It's fabulous to read about an album and be giving it a listen a few minutes later. I concur with TubeLover that it will be a dark day if Tidal goes under, unless one of the other streaming companies make available CD or better quality streaming.
  3. I don't think you can save to your computer but you can to the ipad / iphone (presumably android ones as well). You can access them for as long as they are available on Tidal, but you have to login to Tidal every so often (not sure of the frequency) on the device that you have the saved music or else they won't play. You also have to access them through the Tidal app. Your point about Tidal eliminating the desire to buy albums is a valid one. In my case, I've bought 4 or 5 albums this year but have saved about 80 in my Tidal favourites. No need to buy them since they are literally a couple of clicks away. Of course, if they disappear from Tidal or if Tidal disappears, I'm snookered, but I suspect streaming services are here to stay and others will start offering higher quality streams.
  4. I thought the same thing, but I tried out Tidal about this time last year and now I think it is the best bargain in music. I've listened to more new music in the past year than I ever have in the past. Read about a good album or artist and in minutes giving it a listen. If it is good, save it as a favourite; and I've done that with about 80 albums. If it's not, well, then I haven't wasted $15 or so dollars on it. Quality is on par with my ripped cds. Can save albums on my iphone and play them through the stereo in the car or on the iphone when walking the dog. There is always the risk of Tidal disappearing, but for now, I'm loving it.
  5. Success! Instead of trying to manually set up the Lightning Server to read the music files on my Drobo, which resulted in the "Destination does not contain smb folder share service" error mentioned in my earlier posts, I tried to do it via the Music Library guide as suggested by Auralic support. Even though I had tried it a couple of days earlier without success - it couldn't find any of my music on either my computer or the Drobo even though when I clicked on the main Music Library button, it could see the computer on which the Jriver server was running - I tried it again this evening and this time it gave me a list of all of the computers on the network, including the Drobo. Followed the prompts, got an error message once, but tried it again and this time it worked. Fingers crossed that it doesn't start losing the library like what was happening when using the Jriver server.
  6. Tried that but got the same error message. Andybob - I had seen your earlier post about the response from Mr. Wang and had been wondering if my issue with the Drobo was similar. I did send an email to Auralic about the issue. Just waiting to hear back.
  7. Thanks, Ted. I created a new user on the Drobo called and Aries and gave it a password. In the LDS, I inputted smb://192.168.1.83/music" (which is the ip address for the Drobo and the name of the music folder, then Aries for the user name and the password, tried mounting it but got the same error messages.
  8. I believe I've got Lightning Server seeing the Drobo but I am getting the error message "Destination does not contain smb folder share service". In the Lightning Server setting, it says "No SMB Service" opposite Drive Status. When I search the Drobo knowledge base, the only reference to SMB leads to a post that simply says "DroboShare uses Samba (SMB), so any computer that uses SMB protocols should work." The Drobo attaches to the router (Asus 66U; fw: 3.0.0.4.270) by an ethernet cable. Any suggestions on how to overcome the error message?
  9. Thanks baddog. Got it working, although I did have to resort to their online help to figure out how to share the file. The scanning is very slow, but the manual says that's the case when using a computer rather than a NAS. I have a Drobo 5N that is hooked to the router that I use for backups and storage. Going to see if I can get the LightningServer to scan the backup music files I have on the Drobo. Has anyone configured a Drobo for use with the Lightning Server?
  10. Like t_ram, I'm curious about the Lightning Server. Currently I'm using a Windows 7 computer running Jriver server to handle the music files on the computer. Computer hooked up to the router (Asus n66u). I briefly looked at Lightning Server settings but was stumped when it asked for a path and then user name and password. Haven't had a chance to look at the manual to try and figure out if I can get it to work. Is it possible to get the Lightning Server working with this set-up?
  11. the_bat, has Asus fixed the firmware for the AC68U? That particular issued caused me no end of grief when I first got the Aries. Had to revert to an older modem. If they've fixed the 68, I will put it back in and upgrade the software.
  12. Jriver was solid up until the latest Lightning release. I tried Minimserver when I first got the Aries, but a lot of the artwork, which displays fine with Jriver, disappeared and some of the other tagging was messed up a bit. Since Jriver appeared to work just as well, I didn't bother to figure out how to properly set up Minimserver and fix the artwork / tagging issues. May have to revisit Minimserver if the problems with the Jriver server persist.
  13. Baddog, my music files are on my computer, which is on 24-7 and wired (ethernet) to my router. Just tried refreshing my cache now and this time (attempt 28 or so) it worked.
  14. Since the upgrade to v. 2.0.1, Lighting keeps losing my library in library view. It would happen infrequently with the older versions but it happens now quite frequently. A refresh of the cache would restore it, but now when I go to refresh the cache, the Initializing screens up for about half a second and then shuts down. Shutting down and restarting the app doesn't fix the problem. It eventually (so far at least) refreshes, but I've tried about 15 times in a row now and nothing. It still sees my library (running Jriver) in Folder view and I can play music from my computer from the Folder view. Anyone else experiencing a similar issue? Hopefully the new version will fix this glitch, as well as all of the others that have been reported.
  15. No, Maniac, I'm with you. I too am hoping that Auralic improves upon the Tidal portion of their App. Features like the ones you suggested are good. I'd also like to see searching by genre in order to scroll through and discover new music. Does anyone know if there are any plans to incorporate other streaming services?
