  1. I am thinking about getting a DS 1513+ my idead would be to get 2 WD Red 4 TB and run rhem in RAID 1 initially my rational is that I can add new drives as needed and with the expansion capabilities, I will be ser for a very long time. any thoughts against it apart from cost? on general question on that: the disks that I add have to be of the same make and model? not only I do not need all that storage initially but it seems wise to fase in inadition of HD as that will minimize the chance of simultaneus collapse of disks. sounds like a sound proposition?
  2. This is very interesting from a newbie point of view. Balance pending towards AIFF and DSD, it seems.
  3. ...only one format to rip all your cd library, which would it be?
  4. Hi there! As I have a Mac Mini and intnd to connect it to Oppo, I am very curious if you were able to solve this issue. Hopefully you did.
  5. Does anyone has any experience with this NAS? I am not tech savy, so I am very afraid to go the NAS road...but it seems the sensible way considering that I am putting the whole system together... using the mac mini, what is the best video software available? Can I acess the library throughout the house ( that seems to be the best reason to go through on this path).
  6. Guess I will connect through Oppo's USB (B). now todecide on hardware software ( J River or Audirvana plug in with iTunes) and external drives.
  7. it is already connected through XLR! manythanks
  8. So, it is safe to say that I would not be loosing any flexibility by not using the Mac Server (sorry for the double negative)?
  9. I just finished remodeling my flat and I and I indend to use my Mac Mini as a media server. As I have ethernet cable throughout the flat I was considering the possibility of installling a Mac Server. Does this make any sense ( i am not computer savy, as U probably have already guessed)? thankx
  10. Is the metadata also available on the itunes + audirvana and the JRiver equaly well?
  11. The not ripping is an issue. First I heard about it. Good to know, thanks. just reading my Integra's manual and it says (1) not to use the USB input for music as it will not work and (2) that only HDMI suports 192 mhz. Then the question, why not use HDMI? thankx again
  12. I have not ripped my CD collection yet. Will install the software and then do it. I think I will install JR. Do you think it sprefrable to convert from USB to SPDIF than use the integra USB port? Just out curiosity (trying to understand stuff), why do you think that that would work best? I read somewhere that some Mc minis have SPDIF hidden. If that is my case, would it be better to just use SPDIF from one to the other? Thks again
  13. Dear all, I live in Brazil and am just concuding the set up of my 50% music 50% HT system. I already have a Mac Mini (sorry, do not remember the vintage) ith 16GB of RAM and would like to turn it into a media center. I figurde out already that I will need na external Hard drive. Apart from that I am completely lost. Briefly, my system is as follows: LR Speaker: BW 802 Diamond LR Suround: BW SCM1 Nautilus Amp: Bryston 9B ST Processor: Integra 80.3 Front end: Oppo 105D My initial idea was (is) to connect the Mac Mini through an HDMI cable to Integrs PC input at the integra. Is that the best way? Can I use the DAC of either the Integra or the Oppo (I would hate to paydouble for something that I already have)? What would be the recomeded next steps? Thanks to all i advance. Great fórum (will be even better when I understand all the lingo, hopefully)
