  1. I currently have a Soundblaster X-Fi Xtreme separate soundcard in my machine. Listening to audio is fine and I can record from a mic fine (I don't have this connected all the time, only when I record screencasts) I've got an ASUS P6T Deluxe which has onboard Hi-def audio I've been trying to record from my soundcard but I notice that the 'stereo mix' entry in my audio properties dialog is missing. I disabled the on-board audio in the BIOS and made sure drivers for the soundblaster were up to date, but I still don't see stereo mix in the audio properties. Should I remove (or disable) the Soundblaster card and go back to the on-board Hi-def audio? How does the on-board card compare to the Soundblaster card? I've always been of the school that thinks a separate soundcard will always be better than an on-board device (in the same way that hi-fi separates are better than a combined 'hi-fi'), but is this way of thinking now outdated? I need to be able to record high quality audio (I have Audio Technica AT2020 mic) for screencasts, and I'd like good quality playback. Any recommendations for a decent quality soundcard that will be better than the on-board audio and allow me to record from stereo mix in audio properties? Thanks!
