  1. Post in wrong forum. Sorry. And for the record, I've compared 16 bit and 24 bit versions of the same track and cannot hear any difference even on my highly end 2-channel system.
  2. I respect Gordon Rankin (and I own two of his DACs) but he can be a bit too tweaky for my scientifically trained brain.

  4. I don't have an SOtM, but I do use a Squeezelite player, and it will play anything that can be accessed from LMS (Logitech Media Server.) LMS sees Squeezelite the same way it sees a Squeezebox.
  5. If you'd like a plug and play solution, check out the SOtM 100. It is a small Linux/Squeezelite based player that you simply plug in. And it has a lot of other capabilities should you choose to move away from LMS.
  6. I can comment on moving from a Squeezebox, in my case a Touch that was hacked to use the USB as output into a Wavelength Brick, to a Squeezelite implementation. Running on a minimal Fedora kernel and an ARM5 micro motherboard, Squeezelite 1.5 sounds vastly superior to the SBT plus it supports any file format or high resolution file I choose to throw at it. I am very happy I made the upgrade.
  7. You said it right: VB includes Squeezelite as the player. But VB by itself is a server platform that allows you to use SL to play from the same box.
  8. I am far from a Unix expert, but I believe it is somewhat dependent on the hardware you plan to use. I really advise you to go to the Logitech forum and ask on the Squeezelite thread. It's here: Announce: Squeezelite - a small headless squeezeplay emulator for linux (alsa only) It also runs on OSX and Windows
  9. Vortexbox is server software, not a player. I thought you said you needed something with Squeeze server (now called Logitech Media Server) included. The best Linux-based player for the Slim Systems environment is probably Squeezelite. It will run on nearly any Nix-based OS. Check out the threads on the Logitech Squeezebox forum.
  10. Check out Vortexbox 2.3. about - VortexBox user forum The boot partition is more like 525Mb, but you can't beat the functionality.
  11. I would use the subwoofer cable that fits.
  12. The latest VB 2.3 and VAMP 0.6 releases are much better for speed, stability and sound quality. And try iPeng for control if you don't like the LMS interface.
  13. Right on, thank you for posting this. Anyone who longs for the pre-Civil Rights America is either a racist, ignorant, or looking at the past through rose-colored glasses. Or perhaps through tea-stained glasses.
