Simple stereo receiver with Network support
bwspot replied to bwspot's topic in Networking, Networked Audio, and Streaming
Yes, I would like to have it just in case. It is hard to find a network amp that does everything. There is always some got ya. I will probably go with new version of Marantz SR5008, but the true is that i don't need any of the video and surround features it has. I always though that simple amp would perform better as it has less electronic components then a av receiver. -

Yamaha seems to have everything i need just to play stereo. I can hook up blueray and satellite to it. It seems like it is a good amp. I only have two speakers so getting a 7.1 receiver seems to be pointless. I cannot see any benefits. I had it for 5 years just to play stereo sound, so now i can upgrade to Yamaha to support network features plus old style stereo. The only thing i noticed they dont support ALAC code which might be an issue when apple starts to distribute hi res audio. -

thx, my original plan was to get sr5008. (upgrade from sr5003) I only use two speakers so i though that stereo amplifier could be a litter better as there is less components? -
Streamer that supports up to 24-bit/192kHz

That's a expensive piece. How about Logitech Squeezebox Touch or something else. You said you noticed huge improvement in SQ. So if it is connected to the receiver via spdif do you use it as DAC or as pass-through? -
I use airport express and its toslink output to output files stored on Synology server via Airplay. The apple express supports only 16-bit,44khz streams. Is there a streamer that supports up to 24-bit/192kHz streams? I am looking for something as simple as apple express. Connect to NAS, grab file and output over optical toslink link.
