Slightly off topic - to access the various settings in OPPO BDP-103 player can I use a cheap computer monitor with HDMI input or do I need to get a (more expensive) TV?

So, do I just connect OPPO and MacBookPro with a network cable and that's it, no switch, no router? Do I use a normal network cable or the crossover one?

I should be getting a brand-spanking-new OPPO BDP-103EU MULTI REGION tomorrow and have a lame question: do I need a network switch or a network router to connect it to my MacBook Pro? Any recommendations as to which one (UK Currys or PC World)? My intention is to keep the OPPO offline to avoid automatic firmware updates. Cheers guys!

From what I understand all that will be needed in an old PS3 with working optical drive - it doesn't need to be one with "the right firmware" and it doesn't need to be jailbroken either.
