  1. lets not start bad rumors here. Aries is not android based. It is using Linux so while android is a broadly speaking a variant of Linux, it is not Linux. As for the mytek, there is no need for blind guessing as to whether it will work or not. Search though this thread for discussion on it. Auralic has said while mytek is not native uac2 compatible and therefore compatible with Auralic, they are going to make it compatible around launch. Original poster was asking confirmation that this compatibility made it to the actual product that ted/Chris have.
  2. LPS for this case is out!!! Anyone try it yet? From the picture which I am not sure if accurate, is it basically in the same case as the computer? If this LPS works well, then this solution, case+LPS, is going to be my new default configuration.
  3. Andrew, Any thoughts if JPLAY and/or paul pang card will fit in this machine? Actually paul pang one will have power issues as well as it needs external power so you need to take that into account as well. My main reason is so I can have multiple dacs hooked up to server as same time without changing wires.
  4. i would highly recommend holding off on that purchase. Hugo is recently released with new FPGA chip. They are working on full sized dac using the new FPGA chip. Not sure when it will come out but it won't be long. Hugo itself might already be better than chordate.
  5. Really recommend going with a fanless silent design. The CAPS servers on this website are good example. In any case, you need to decide on the following: 1) Have music files locally or on network: On network is great as centralized storage is good for backup etc. Also, you can then have smaller hard drive on the local music server (which means SSD is possible). However, network storage is added expense and more complicated on setup as you need to setup network etc (recommend hard wire to network even if wireless generally is good enough). Personally, I have a synology for network storage and running a new CAPS ZUMA locally. 2) Looking for single station or multi station solution. Multi station solution will likely involve network storage. There are also some good out of the box solutions for this such as some of the ones pointed out earlier. You should basically do the math on total cost as well as per station costs to estimate which is more economical.
  6. I have similar issue. Was thinking about getting JCAT USB or PPA USB Card which has two USB ports. I can plug both DACs in. Using JRiver on Windows, I can switch between the dacs just by changing the output device. I use ipad or laptop using remote desktop to get the music server desktop up and for controlling music playback.
  7. tboooe, One other thing. You might want to consider not getting the SOTM USB card pre installed. I am thinking about replacing mine with a JCAT or PPA card because those cards are probably at the same level and have 2 USB ports which I could use. However, the PPA card needs power so that is an issue. But I do think both those cards should fit in computer.
  8. Sent you PM with Andrew Gillis with smallgreencomputer.com contact info. Let me know if you have any issues reaching him or questions for me. Enjoy!
  9. Thanks to Andrew at smallgreencomputer.com. He built me a full featured CAPS Zuma server in a small footprint (pictures below). It is built in a HD-Plex H1S chassis (8.77L 10.39W 2.5H). Intel i7-4770S 3.10GHz, 16 GB Ram, 250GB SSD Drive, SOTM USB card. It's not a choice on Andrew's website, but I would definitely recommend this build. Couple of things. I used Andrew, as opposed to self building, because he had this specific build tested out for heat which would be a key potential issue which these capabilities and this small a build and the markup small enough not to take the risk. The other thing is that HD-Plex just came out with a relatively reasonably priced Linear Power Supply ($265) for this case and provides enough power for this build (Fanless ATX Power Supply - HDPLEX INC) and has dual 19VDC and 12VDC outputs. Supposedly the next version will have a 5V DC output as option. Anyone know a decent voltage regulator so I can convert the 12VDC to 6-9VDC to power the SOTM card. But I love having a paired/tested LPS solution. Here are a couple of pictures next to my IPAD Air.
  10. Thinking through some of the claims around usb audio cables. Assuming one of the advantages claimed are error free transfers because of better shielding, higher bandwidth, etc., I think we could put it to the test using a normal hard drive hooked up by usb. Do a few transfer tests and see sustained transfer rates. Assuming it meets usb 2.0 standards and computer and portable hard drive are fast enough, slow downs in transfer rates would be from error correction. I think there tools that can give you usb error rates as well, but I need to look for it. Not sure if this has been tried before as test. Asynchronous usb transfer rates for usb 2.0 audio would even be faster. So if there are errors on normal usb 2.0 transfers, I would think errors more likely at usb 2.0 audio rates. Now might be silly test as all the cables pass the test with flying colors, but can't know unless we try.
  11. pinkfaun i2s but unclear if compatible with lamp i2s port. I think i2s is really pure given that it is the native signal in computer, but couple of issues. Less researched on how to output as compared to PCM. 2nd, lamp only takes dsd in through USB port.
  12. reminded me to check on msb UT. Given that it can now output dsd through all inputs and not just hdmi, I guess it would be possible to get native dsd files onto computer that way. Before I just knew of using old ps3 of right firmware/model to backup/convert sacd to dsd files. al, is this an easy process with msb UT?
