  1. For a very long time I get sent subsequent posts apparently all entered as responses to one I made way back. How do I get freed of this and get new posts to be entered on their own or as responses to what they are really responses to?
  2. Phil, Believe me I read them all and they do not clarify the issues I mention, at least not sufficiently. Why would I be bothering to offer these suggestions otherwise? How does it make sense for servicetool to offer mode change when it cannot? Anyway, it caused me a lot of time and trouble and I hope to help others avoid this. I want to make clear that otherwise I think AO is a great enhancement as are your many helpful instructions and pdfs.
  3. "Windows Server 2016 & 2019 do not offer this functionality, that's why it's not displayed in the ServiceTool as option. Windows Server 2012 & 2012 R2 do offer that feature, and if detected the ServiceTool will offer the according functions" Might I suggest that this be stated in the setup instructions and not just the best practices. The servicetool choice A still says "restore..., change mode" when using WS 2019. Shouldn't these words not appear with this version? Or after "change mode" it could say "except for ws 2016 or 2019" for all. I used ws 2012 gui for many years in AO core mode but with a new machine am using 2019. I never knew or had reason to that WS core mode and AO core mode where the same thing or that I would sacrifice using AO core mode if starting from WS2019 gui. I wish the setup guide differentiated instructions for the different WS versions.
  4. I haven't been able to change mode from gui to core mode in AO on my audiopc running Windows Server 2019 desktop version. I also see nothing clearly about that in the setup quide or in this forum. When I run service tool the second time and choose A after restoring drivers and services and restarting, I get "drivers and services have already been restored" and not a choice of modes to change to. Am I supposed to be able to change to core mode with server 2019 or not? If so, any ideas what my problem might be?
  5. Several have said they think server 2016 in core mode is a distinct improvement on server 2012 core or windows 10. I now have to redo my dual PC systems having used windows 2012r2 in gui mode with AO in core mode on audiopc and in gui on controlpc and am content with the convenience trade-off. I am willing to now go to windows 2016 in gui mode if that will be a clear improvement. Would it be? And what if I only change the controlpc to server 2016?
  6. There is 'special' pricing worked out for AO users, but it is not so special and not what some have assumed. Jeremy tells me if you have a dual pc setup using AO on both and thus W2012 server on both then you have to buy 2 server licenses and have no use for the 6 'workstation' licenses that come with these. That's $59.95 times two, $119.90, or $129.95 x2, $259.90, for lifetime upgrades for what is essentially a single integrated setup with two parts. This does not seem special or any bargain to me. In this situation a single server license seems appropriate to me given that two computers are working together toward one functional use. What do others think?
  7. I am baffled at your reading of what i asked. I know you didn't say that. That is why I asked Phil about what the basis for preferences is. I believe Phil but Phil hasn't said what the basis is as far as he knows. So I thank you that "we'll just let Phil answer" since that is what I asked in the first place.
  8. My question to Phil was whether it is so that he finds most use GUI mode instead of core and if that is do mostly to better sound or other issues, if so. I have tried both GUI and core extensively with JPlay and Foobar and prefer core in all cases. I never suggested I was unfamiliar or needed instruction. Core theoretically should be better for the reasons you state. I was asking about actuality as reported to Phil.
  9. Quote from JPlay forum post: "Yes, it was an email response from Phil. I was asking about issues I had, and Phil made the clarification. He said many people make the same mistake. He also stated that most of his customers use GUI mode with AO. " I addressed my question to Phil and I made no misquote. I am still hoping to get his answer.
  10. Phil, you are quoted on the JPlay forum today to the effect that most AO users operate it in GUI mode and that it is only the sound quality that matters. That leaves open the question of whether most find GUI sounds best or if its choice often has to do with other things like convenience, difficulty running in core mode, etc. Do you hear from most users who can run both modes that GUI sounds better or, at least, no less good? That is not my impression or my impression of what others have reported, but if it is the case then why have/use a core mode?
  11. Right you are! Thanks. Now I am listening to 1.31b8 with jplay6 hibernate via streamer and minimserver. Truly stunning!
  12. I had been using jplay ultrastream with kernel streaming with 1.30 core mode. I installed 1.31b8 choosing to install kernel streaming in the setup but now in Jplay setup kernel steaming doesn't appear as an option and I cannot set to ultrastreaming. I reran AO with no change. How do I get kernel streaming back? Isn't this one of the things this update is to fix?
  13. You can get to any file or run many programs connected to your server by expanding Drivers & Devices in MC and then Explorer.
  14. I have got TIDAL running with AO in gui mode, but not minimal server or core modes. The limitation is the need to have the sound control panel working so that your Chrome browser or the Tidal app can find the chosen default device driver for playback. Perhaps there is a way to do this in minimal server if first the right default is set in gui mode. Also, perhaps there are command line commands that can set the default device and/or start the sound panel in core mode, but someone else will have to come up with these for us.
