  1. I just a happen to know an excellent metal worker/fabricator. If you would like to send me a unit for early testing, I will have him make a beautiful, custom case to finish off and enclose the unit. All kidding aside, looks amazing. Looking forward to the release. The JS-4 likes a great linear power supply solution for the Mutec Nano in combination with Etherregen.
  2. I have 2 of the SVS sealed subs. They are very good for money and punch above their price point. Enjoy.
  3. I stumbled upon an Aurender N100 I had stored away today and added it to the system via USB. It only has USB output. I am currently running ethernet via fiber into the Etherregen> Lyngdorf TDAI3400 integrated (built in streamer/TIDAL). The Etherregen is clocked by the Mutec Ref10 Nano. The Aurender also has the capability to stream Tidal as well as an internal HD. As mentioned above, it has USB output only. Would it potentially make an improvement run the Ethergegen to the Aurender N10 and then use a Mutec MC3+ via USB from the Aurender to output to the Lyngdorf integrated? The Nano would then be clocking both the Etherregen and the MC3+. The Lyghdorf integrated has a multitude of input options and can accept any of the outputs from the MC3+. Down the road I will add a linear power supply for both the Etherregen and the Nano. Any thoughts about this potential set up? Thanks, J
  4. "Depends upon your system application and needs, but the performance and refinement of the big REF10 is hard to beat—especially at the new lower price (for years it was $5K). Call or write if you would like one. Can ship right away. " I received the Nano about 2 weeks ago. I have a mid-fi system. We stepped out of the audiophile world for about 10 years and wanted to get back into audio. It is shocking what streaming audio can do now. In my recent experience, pretty damn/darn good through Tidal (I also use Amazon through a WIIM PRO) . Current setup is running from a Spectrum router/switch>> TP link optical converter>>AOC cable>> Etherregen via optical in. B side of output via ethernet cable >> Integrated amp (Lyghdorf TDAI-3400). The Etherregen is connected to the Mutec Mano VIA a Belden Cable from Custom Cables. I think they are in TX. The cable model may be a 4694R or something like that. It is pretty flexible and I think Alex told me it would work ok at shorter distances, which it does. I am shocked by the improvement. I know that my speakers are the limiting factor. I had the opportunity to hear everything from the Magico Q series to the Vivid Giyas, Hartbeth, Spendor, blah blah blah. . I am basing my review of very mid-fi speakers: Sonus Faber Olympia I. I am running 2 subs with the system to help out with the lower frequencies. I am going to try to explain the difference the Nano made AFTER the Etherrengen was in place. The Etherregen made a a great difference and I am very thankful for having found it. There is no magic in this crap. We are just moving along digital information. This is just simple 1 and 0, to the damn horse. How we integrate them is way above my pay level. The difference in my very modest system, race for the triple crown. The listening difference, It MADE me go into work one hour late. I had to listen just a little bit longer, hence the reason for me being one hour late to work. The combintaiton MADE listen to more. In all reality, I was just lookin for a reason not to go to work. All kidding aside, you will hear details that not hear before, subtle crap, like pitch, intonation, stuff that like in voices. Bass, more pitch and control. The biggest thing that I hear: silk, continuity, coherence and naturalness. I hope you all enjoy the world of digital as much as I do. I am still keeping my vinyl for for a rainy day, but this is fun as can be.
  5. I have the Mutec REF10 Nano coming in from Uptone Audio this week. Not sure about a power supply yet, but will let you know how the Nano works out with the Etherregen. Supposedly it takes a couple of weeks to settle in. I would like to pair it with the JS4 Uptone will be releasing. They are supposed to be releasing it in the next few months. IT has 2 separate/isolated outputs with adjustable voltage. That way it can be used with the Mutec and then Etherregen without bridging the moat of the Etherregen.
  6. I ordred a few of the Cisco SFP-10G-AOC5M cables on eBay. I also ordered the TP-link MC220L to convert the output from my Spectrum wireless router (SAXV1V1S WiFi 6 Router) to fiber. Is there another basic and better option than the TP-link MC220L for converting the signal to fiber?
  7. I am completely new t0 the fiber connections. Can the SFP-10G-AOC5M cable be used with SFP modules or does it have to be SFP+ modules? I have two of the FTFL1318P2BTL being delivered new week. They are going to be used from the router to the "A" side of the etherregen. The cable I ordered is the a single mode duplex fiber optic cable from Ultra Spec cables. Would the SFP-10G-AOC5M work ok the the above above Finisars?
  8. Hello All, I recently purchased a Lynghdorf TDAI-3400 Loaded. I started looking at the Mutec products as a way to improve the performance of the unit. During my search I also found the Etheregen which seems to be well regarded. The TDAI-3400 has a streamer built it. I am not currently using the built in function. I know it is not the best solution but I am using a Wiim PRO as a lot of my current lists are on Amazon music and the internal streamer does not support Amazon music. The Wiim feeds the Lynghdorf via digital coax. I plan to utilize the internal streamer via ethernet in the near future. I am using a Wifi router from Spectrum. Currently all of the ethernet ports are being used for Apple TV, security cameras and security system. Would the Etheregen be a good place to start? I looks like it has one main output that would run the Lynghdorf and other ports on the opposite side that could be used for secondary devices, is that correct? I also have an older Aurender N100 which probably is not relevant any longer with the new equipment. it has USB output only. If the Ethergen is a good starting upgrade path, what is recommended for power supply and cables? I also noticed that After Dark offers a heat sink for the Ethergen. Is this recommended secondary to severe heat? Thanks, J
  9. ted...i am very much looking forward to your review. The Lightspeed cable was supposed to be shipped on May 8 from the Cable Co. but I have not had any work from them to date.
  10. this is somewhat like sex. Those that have not tried it may not understand what all of the fuss is about. Good news with USB cables: you can often return them if you do not like them; and without the financial and health implications.
  11. I am using Spotify on a regular basis. It actually sounds pretty good on my setup. It allows me to explore a lot of music. It also renders enough detail that I can tell if a recording is worth purchasing for higher sound quality. There are even some Chesky audiophile recordings there to sample.
  12. I am looking forward to read more reviews. I have learned so much from the information shared on these forums. Glad you are enjoying the cable too!
  13. I recently picked up a new usb cable that made a substantial difference in sound. Improvement was similar to a component upgrade. I don't claim to understand it but the change is there...for the better. Now I am looking at power cords.
  14. First let me apologize for my previous post with spacing errors. It was modified when when I pasted it from my clipboard. I have asked the administrator to remove it. This review is for the TotalDac D1 cable/filter. TotalDac is a French company that specializes in digital to analog converters. Their products have been reviewed by Audiostream and other main stream sites. I stumbled upon the D1 while purchasing a Chord EX. The sales representative told me about the D1 and highly recommended it, even though he did not carry the line. I was a bit shocked that he made a recommendation outside of his product line. It appears that there are still people out there that value the audiophile experience over the almighty buck. Let me preface by saying that I was in high end audio and video sales for 6 or 7 years while working through college and have had the lucky experience of playing with some really nice equipment in the stores and customer homes. I am new to the computer scene. Over the past 6 months I have been shocked by the quality and convenience afforded by the computer as a source. I have had three DACs in my system inthe past 6 months. I have used three USB cables including the D1. My comparison cable is an Audioquest Carbon. There is a substantial difference in price between the two cables but this is what I have onhand for comparison. The carbon is .75m and the D1 is three meters. The three meter length allows easy access to my laptop whilelistening. Vincent from Totaldac assured me the length was fine asthe filter portion is placed near the end of the cable. I assume that the filter technology plays a large part in the performance of the cable. I have had the D1 in my system for almost a week, running a signal 24 hours a day. I could hear a substantial difference between the AQ and the D1 right out of the box. I do not have my audiophile dictionary or thesaurus handy so please take my descriptions with a grain of salt. The performance of this cable is startling. Please keep in mind this is coming from a guy that bought into the simple 1s and 0s idea of a USB cable. The purchase was a hard pill to swallow as the cable sells for 330 to 390 euros depending on length. I only paid 800 dollars for my DAC so this was a leap of faith based on other reviews and advice as mentioned above. I am going to list the main improvements I hear with the D1, in order of my perceived significance: detail at all levels including instrument texture coherence three dimensional presentation liquid and smooth delivery enveloping sound in all planes huge bass scale and control When listening I find I am literally “sucked” into the music. Clearly this is based on the quality of the recording and sound engineering. This cable will expose all aspects of the recording. Performers occupy distinct areas in the stage and the presentation is LARGE. Ambiance and air is amazing. I attribute this to the ability of the cable to pass along the detail of the recording. The music extends in front of, outside of, over and well beyond the plane of my speakers. As I mentioned I feel like I am enveloped by the sound vs a flatter presentation. I am not a big fan of forward presentations. Even though the presentation is somewhat forward it is well balanced by a deep rear soundstage. In summary, even though the cable is expensive the increase in performance is on par with a component upgrade. I can truly say I have seen improvement in all areas withthe D1. The cable may improve over the next week but I am happy where I am, listening right now. I have a loaner scheduled from the Cable Co. for the Lightspeed. We will see if audiophile nervosa takes hold. 15. Lol. I posted it from a mac program. I guess the spacing got messed up. Is there any way to edit?
