  1. With the prog Q, the width of the equalized band changes somewhat with the gain - this is the "standard" PEQ behaviour. The constant Q mode has been introduced to ensure that the width of the band remains unchanged irrespective of the gain.
  2. If you have ever installed third party interface plugins, this one is no different. What specific issue do you have?
  3. Well you won't hear it, but your jewels may start vibrating, given enough SPL. The Kii THREE themselves go down to 5 Hz, but the only way to tell is by looking at the drivers: not enough energy there to cause any other response. And that may be a good thing.
  4. Treatment still helps. Sound produced by the Kiis still bounces off the walls just like from any other speakers. To reduce the impact of room treatment you'd have to move towards the near-field setup.
  5. Welcome to the Kii club, @Cazzesman ! You should be able to emulate Apple remote on the Harmony.
  6. First thing that comes to mind is the Lynx Hilo, and I don't even use it as a DAC any more (even though it has 3 sets of DACs onboard). It's the heart of my digital system, and mostly serves me as a digital preamp. Completely transparent and very flexible. Over the years I've learned to trust it completely for inputs switching, mixing and recording. Simply brilliant tool which manages a few other devices and never leaves me wishing for more. Then there's the Violectric V281 which squeezes every last ounce of performance from all my headphones and makes them really sing. It's very good as a preamp too, but I don't use that feature any more. Last but not least, I am absolutely amazed with the Kii Three speakers, which are a fantastic fit for my room and my needs. Lots has been said about them at CA and other sites and by my experience they live up to the hype.
  7. Where did you get these USB sticks from? I've seen reports about some ebay vendors manipulating small capacity USB sticks firmware to report a larger capacity. Yours are behaving like 4 to 8 GB el cheapo sticks - once that capacity is reached you get erros.
  8. Have you considered that your "love story" which strips out Keith Jarret's moans most likely also takes out half of Norah Jones's vocals and many other things you probably would want to hear? As far as I am concerned, "correcting" one possibly faulty recording to destroy many others is not the way to go. But audio is all about personal preferences, so suit yourself...
  9. The question is not how is that fair but how is that relevant?
  10. Audiophiledom is a state of mind, not the amount of gear you have collected. If you appreciate high quality sound reproduction and are keen to pursue it, you're there. It's a journey, not a destination.
  11. I was going to get the Yggy but after testing a few DACs in my system I ended up getting the Metrum Menuet. In this price range most DACs do most things right, so it's down to preferences and synergy with the rest of the system.
  12. @Musicophile: I think you did the right thing. In the end you own a balanced amp, so being curious to find out what it is capable of is a natural thing (although this could have been done a bit cheaper). Chances are you'll like the difference it makes, if not - you can always sell the cable to reduce your losses. In my setup (HD800 with V281) the balanced output is clearly more dynamic and provides some subtle changes to the overall tonality of the headphones. After hearing the difference I wouldn't go back to single ended.
  13. I think my wow moment was when I properly treated my listening room. That gave me a very noticeable boost in stereo imaging, flatter frequency response and allowed me to crank up the volume level a few dB without any adverse effects. This aspect of audio is still grossly overlooked and I have been guilty of ignoring it for too long myself. Now I wouldn't bother at all putting a speaker based system in a room which is not "audio-friendly".
  14. I think the concern here is that the alternatives are becoming more and more expensive. Unfortunately this appears to be not an isolated example but a symptom of an industry trend.
