  1. Very weird issue with my Mac Mini. a week ago Saturday I was listening to music with no issues. Shut the system down as I always do and I left town for a little over a week on business. I come home on Monday night and go to listen to some music and my Mac Mini no longer recognizes my AURALiC Vega. I open up Preferences, select Sound and the Vega is no longer in the list of devices for sound output. I reboot the Mac, no change. I unplug the USB cable and plug it back in, no change. I repeat, this time plugging back in to a different USB port, no change. I turn the Vega completely off, wait a few minutes, then turn it back on, no change. I try rebooting the Mac again, still no change. The was an automatic update to Safari while I was gone, but I can't imagine that having any effect. Any ideas from the collective here? I'm baffled.
  2. I'm a fan of Dead Can Dance "Toward the Within".
  3. I've got something very similar out on my deck. Mine are Boston Acoustic.
  4. There probably isn't anything wrong with your REL, you just need to use a different cable and attachment method. Because of the way that REL's attach to your amp they have a different cable for use with Class D amps due to the feedback circuitry employed in most Class D amps. Your dealer should have been aware of this issue and gotten the correct cable for you. I'm using a REL Stadium II with a pair of AURALiC Merak monoblocks and have no issues. Music Direct sells the cable I'm describing. Here's what they have on their web site. Digital Amplifier Users, You Need This Cable to Use a REL Subwoofer! If you own a Digital Amplifier and you’ve lusted after a REL, you’ve probably read the dire warnings in REL owner manuals saying that RELs are incompatible with Digital Amplification. This is no longer the case! Sumiko, the North American importer of REL, has engineered this special cable which makes it safe to use a REL with a Digital Amplifier. Simply use the Digital Amp Cable instead of the stock REL cord; there’s no assembly, no effort, just plug and play! Although the Digital Amplifier Cable looks similar to the stock cable that comes with every REL, there are a few changes. The most obvious is the male RCA connector soldered to the negative conductor of the cable. Less obvious is the extra weight in the Neutrik connector that plugs into the REL. The male RCA is to be plugged into an open input on the preamp section of the system, which stabilizes the ground plane for the Digital Amplifier. The positives are not changed and should be installed exactly the same way they would be with the stock REL cable. The extra weight in the Neutrik connector is a small series of resistors which change the input impedance of the REL making it more palatable to digital amplifiers. There’s no need to adjust or modify settings, the cable is ready to go right out of the box and does not impact the sonic clarity of the REL.
  5. I'm fortunate enough to have it right in my back yard. I've gone every single year since the first one and don't plan to miss this year!

    Auralic Merak

I have the Merak's along with the Vega and Taurus Pre, which replaced a Peachtree Grand Integrated. I'm using them with both my KEF LS-50's as well as my Martin Logan CLS IIz's and they are VERY satisfying. Prior to a downsizing exercise which brought me to the Peachtree, I was running a Dodson Audio DAC feeding a BAT VK-31SE in turn feeding a BAT VK-6200. While I feel there is a slight sacrifice in mid-range sweetness and bloom, I sense an increase in detail retrieval and resolution with no loss in dynamics and a slight increase in soundstage and localization. I don't regret my move to the all ALAURiC system.
  7. I noticed that on the website too. May have to swing by a store to get another one before they can't be found at all.
  8. For portable use I'm running my LCD-3's off of an ALO Continental V2 fed by a Cypherlabs Algorhythm Solo R from a 160G iPod Classic. In my listening room I'm using the headphone output from my AURALiC Taurus Pre. DAC is the AURALiC Vega.
  9. I plan to, just so many disc's and not enough time. Anything I buy new gets ripped right away, although lately I seem to buy more Hi-Rez downloads than anything else. Of all my CD's right now I'd say only about 20% are ripped.
  10. Thanks for the warm welcome guys. Looking forward to being a part of the community!
  11. Been a reader/Lurker for awhile. Member and Moderator on other forums, but first time poster here. Started playing music off my computer only 3-4 years ago, started discovering Hi-Rez and then a few months ago realized I was only listening to either my computer or vinyl rig. I haven't spun a silver disc other than to rip it in more than a year I think. Led me to want to learn more, which led me to this site, and here I am. At any rate, looking forward to learning and participating here!
