  1. I understand the above, but just going to highlight one thing. The gains in sound quality are not absolute. I do not consider myself a purist audiophile. I just look at myself as a music lover. So the question is, would I personally benefit from AO. Considering, I do not have a high end set-up. I just have a passion for music. I'm not saying AO is not working, in fact I strongly believe it does. What I'm unsure about is wether I am able to hear what AO can do. Wether it restricted by me , or my system. I know this is not a question you can answer for me, and I'm not asking you to. But I am interested in your personal opinion on the following , would you be able to tell a difference on a 'non audiophile*' set up. *Let's say a basic 1 PC>DAC>Amp>Speakers set up, in a non treated room.
  2. It's ok, no apology needed. I started out with a conventional pc, but after moving into my gf house space was an issue, so it got traded to a laptop. A well specced 1.5TB HDD , 16gb ram asus. very happy with that. My old pc got donated to a younger member of the family so he can indulge himself in his passion of videogames. I use my current laptop for daily use, as well as you put it well audio equipment. The more I use the laptop as audio equipment , the more I like it. And it's easy to control from distance with android app gizmo. But as it's also my main laptop, I can't make it my dedicated audio pc. As my laptop is now my only source of pc, I could not afford to play with OS systems. However I was lucky to find a working HP 320GB HDD 2GB ram laptop in the hard rubbish. So now I have a spare laptop to play with. My goal is to make this laptop my dedicated audio only pc, and I am trying to figure out what's the best way for me. What I do know for now, is that a dual pc set up, is getting too complicated for me.(this might change in the future) And for now, I am not ready to use Jplay, this may also change in the future. So for now I am exploring the best option for one audio pc only. Using pc as audio equipment, and nothing else. So I can keep using my main laptop for normal non audio stuff. I am here on this forum to learn. I have got an open mind for everything. And all input is appreciated.
  3. If I wasn't persuaded in the first place, I would have never started my WS2012 adventure. What I'm doing now, is getting myself familiair with WS2012. As it is a requirement for AO. My next step is to see if I can get used to using windows in core mode. Knowing I wont be able to use core mode to play music, I just want to see if I am pc literate enough to use it. If I find it is something I can consider myself using, it will be another step closer to AO.
  4. My current setup is also Marantz with wharfdale. And to me it sounds very good. The amp will have no problem powering those speakers. As far as I can observe , they are a good match.
  5. I'm with you on this bit as well. I do believe that many users are hearing the difference. I also believe that the optimizer is making a difference. However what I don't know, is will I personally be able to hear the difference.
  6. Hi phil. Thanks for your response. I remember reading that about wasapi/kernel mode in core but i forgot, thanks for reminding me. I got WS2012 up and running, but when i compared it to standard windows7 i could not hear the difference. The only variable is the os, everything thing else is identical. Am i doing something wrong, or am i just not able to hear the difference.
  7. May I ask how you found that ??? How did you compare? I am just starting on my server2012 adventure. And I can't hear the difference at all. My current set up is non optimized win7 with jriver19. I compared it to stock WS2012 also with jriver 19. Both jriver settings are identical. And both are using the same dac same cable. And using the same audio track. The only variable is the OS. If you can hear a diff with optimized win7 , I should be able to hear a dif with a non optimized win7. I want to hear it, but I just don't. I am genuinely interested in audiophileoptimizer, but if I can't hear a difference now , I might fear I wont hear a difference either with AO.
  8. Thanks for your reply iago. I have decided to give compatibility mode a fair go. I uninstalled the 1.6 driver, and tried to install 1.4 I actually worked this time, and I got audio coming out of my pc the way it is suppose to. I have not yet played with pc in 'core' mode, as that is on my to do list. I first wanted to install and test al the things that could cause hiccups first , before I go and explore the 'core'.
  9. thanks. I have heard/read about the compatibility mode, but have not yet tried it. Once this works, I am planning of running the pc in 'core' mode, as that's where I should hear a big difference in sound. I am not sure if compatibility mode works in core mode. That's why I am mainly focussed on getting it to work outside compatibility mode. Yes, I am aware of that. It caused me a small hiccup for the the first time I went to set it up for windows7. I couldn't get the button combo working straight away. but once I got it, it was a breeze. And I'm stil using the dac for my current windows7 set-up, so it's definatly in uac2.0 mode.
  10. Hi guys. I just joined this forum So a quick introduction. My name is johan, born in the netherlands, but now living in Australia. I have a strong passion or electronic music , so digital music is a logical step. After discovering audiophile optimizer I have been interested in an audio only pc. unfortunately my budget is very low atm, so I could not do much. But, during a recent hard rubbish collection find, I got a working laptop for free. So far I managed to install a trial version of windows server 2012. Got wifi working, and managed to install jriver19. My goal is to compare my current windows 7/jriver19/dacmagic combo to WS2012/jriver19/dacmagic combo. If I can hear a difference, I'm ready to invest in audiophile optimizer. If not , I stick to my current windows 7. Up until now it went forward, but now I'm stuck. My dac is the dacmagic 100. To get usb2.0 I need the driver, I could not install the 1.43 driver, as it said it was no compatible. So I installed 1.67 driver. Jriver now recognises dac in usb2 mode. But that's where it ends. If I go to dac control panel it says ; nothing is installed. If I try to play a file, jriver says , cannot playback. So the driver is not working. According to CA I might need a firmware update, and to do so I have to contact them. Which I have done trough their channel, but so far no reply. Does anybody else have any experience with windows server 2012, and dacmagic 100? Is it possible to get dacmagic working under WS2012 ?
