1. I'm in. Really hoping that this will come to fruition! Thank you for all of your hard work so far! And congrats on the new addition to the family!!! Regards, Billy B.
2. Very nice! Thank you for posting. Here's a sample if anyone else is interested...
3. (RE: where to acquire the above disc...) Thank you, Boris. I was afraid of that. And thank you for the additional info as well. I still might spring for the box set, even with the cost, but yeah, I understand the PITA of having to rip all of those discs, too! For the love of music...
4. Blast from my past... Cactus World News - Urban Beaches (1986) Amazon.com: Cactus World News ~ Urban Beaches (Original 2001 UK Import CD Containing 17 Tracks with 22 Page Booklet): Music http://youtu.be/wtIbcvprScY
5. Very interested. Do you know where this might be available on disc or download? Thanks!
6. Thanks! Glad that you like it, SoundQcar! FYI, you can also just shoot Steph an email through her web site at Steph Johnson Band and she'll get you set up with a CD ASAP! She has always responded personally to all of my emails to her and is a true sweetheart...a very talented one at that! Are you on any of the Car Audio forums as well? What setup do you have in your car? If you're interested, please take the convo to PM or email to keep this thread clean. Now back to more good stuff...
7. Sorry that I didn't get back to you gents sooner in this thread, however I did respond to HIFI's email. Yes, just contact Steph Johnson through her web site at Steph Johnson Band and she'll get a CD to you! I've been buying discs/downloading like crazy because of this thread, LOL! Absolutely fantastic recommendations here! Thanks all. And thanks, kevalin, for responding to HIFI. Yep, Steph is a true sweetheart and really does take the time whenever she can to personally respond to her emails. That's awesome that you put her in contact with Cookie at Bluecoast/Downloadsnow! I've also been thinking about how to get her music out to the masses, so props to you for that! Thanks again everyone. Keep the recommendations coming! Billy B.
8. ^Great selections there! Also check out "Scientist...Wins the World Cup" For Dub, I like a few of the Quango "Dubmission" series...Dubmission 1: The Remixes, and Dubmission 2: The Remixes: I couldn't find the "Remixes 1" cover art, but I like it best...will try to scan it later. Also like the "Hi-Fidelity Dub Sessions:" compilations... "Chapter One, The Second Chapter, Chapter 4, and Roots Combination" front back ...And a select few of the old and new "King Size Dub" compilations are great: #4
9. (Copied from the "Reference" CD thread)... Well, a few people contacted me about acquiring a physical CD of "The Steph Johnson Trio - Nature Girl" disc that I recommended back in Post #81, so here is more information... To purchase a physical CD, go to her web site at Steph Johnson Band (you must use a "desktop browser" (not a mobile browser) in order for the links to show up. To receive the physical CD, you MUST use the "DONATE" button near the top right of the home page (near where the CDbaby & iTunes download links are and the small thumbnail of Steph's "Nature Girl" album cover). You need to Donate $20 (USD) to get the physical CD (this pays for the CD & shipping). Steph self-produced this CD, so that's how much it is just for her to cover her costs and to afford to buy a coffee. Read about it and find the other Pay Pal "DONATE" link by Clicking on the "NEWS" tab at the top of the web site, then read the section titled, "HELP STEPH RELEASE HER 3RD ALBUM!". The CD comes in a very nicely/professionally printed CD holder/jacket with liner notes etc. It's not just a "burned CD-R" disc in a generic clear plastic case! Steph sends it to you directly, too! For reference, I own thousands of CDs, (and of course many more downloads) and I can sincerely say that this is one of my absolute Top Ten Favorites, so be assured, this CD is WELL WORTH the $20. And IMO, this isn't one of those CDs with just one or two outstanding tracks where the rest are just mediocre "filler". Every track is a gem here. As a side note for further reference, I am a former drummer and saxophonist of 15 years, and the production quality and sound quality of this CD are amazing! Like a lot of us here, I also own A LOT of Hi-Res downloads from HDtracks, and MFSL/FIM/Chesky/Mappleshade/Telarc/ECM/DECCA/Naxos discs, etc. With this CD, Steph and the band are "in the room with you" (if you have a top-notch playback system). If you enjoy female jazz vocals similar to Diana Krall, Norah Jones, Cassandra Wilson, Ella Fitzgerald, etc, I urge you to give this CD a listen...and even if you don't love this genre, it is a true reference/demo disc IMHO. And if you end up enjoying her music and the SQ of this disc, PLEASE, PLEASE share it with anyone and everyone who you think might be interested! I honesty feel that Steph and the Trio are amazingly talented, and I would like to help another "unknown" artist "get the word out". Also, if you are local to San Diego, CA (or even Los Angeles) Steph has several live performances each month. Here is one of the tracks from the "Nature Girl" CD... Sorry for the slight derail...back to more amazing recommendations!

11. ... Amos Lee - Amos Lee (on Blue Note) The Wood Brothers. I have a few of their albums, but some evenings I'll just cue up this YouTube video of their LiveSet...
12. I'm normally not a fan of Bob Dylan, but I enjoy listening to "OH MERCY" every time. & Simple Minds - Street Fighting Years

14. We'll just have to wait and see which chip they went with and how it is implemented (and the true quality it does or does not provide). Most of the past Galaxy S/Galaxy Note models have had different DAC chips depending on whether it is a U.S. domestic or "International" version, so that is something to watch for as well. Obviously, "Hi-Res" portable audio is becoming more and more popular and desirable in the general public's eyes...er, ears...especially in the smartphone/PMP segment. At least this is another step towards higher quality portable audio...even if it's a failure, because Samsung will surely hear about it either way (good or bad) from the audio press and community...which will hopefully drive them to improve the next iteration. Time will tell.
15. I realize that I am just a wee bit late in my reply, as this is a response from back on page 3 I think, but Vic's live in studio track, "Everybody Can Change" from the "KCRW Rare On Air, Vol. 2" CD is one of my favorite tracks of all time! There are quite a few other gems on all of the "KCRW Rare On Air" CDs (Volumes 1-4). I highly recommend them. I also love both the original Cowboy Junkies "The Trinity Session" and the newer "Trinity Revisited". Great SQ and performances!
