Best Possible ITunes Based set-up
timtunes replied to timtunes's topic in Disk Storage / Music Library Storage
Thank you Ralf I probably should have explained a bit more (also updated my current kit) It was the frustration of my Mac needing to be rebuilt and I was wondering whether having 1.5TB on the mac was the right way - given how long it is taking to restore (3 days & counting). I have dabbled with NAS but didn't get on with it - I want immediacy -
Best Possible ITunes Based set-up
timtunes replied to timtunes's topic in Disk Storage / Music Library Storage
Ah, am I wasting my time asking that sort of question I have my FLAC/WAV stuff but I still have 1.5TB of music that serves mobile etc So it's a set-up that can serve everything -
My iMac is having a moment so I have had to delete all and rebuild My MP3 Music folder is large (1TB+ of tunes) that i manage with itunes. i also have a hi-Res folder that I use with Roon I want to retain iTunes, playlists etc. What though would be the best set-up. Currently I have the data all on the internal fusion drive for speed of access - but what could the other 'clean start' options. interested in NAS but concerned this would slowdown access. Thw world is your oyster - please suggest good places to start from

Thanks Reminds me...I have a synology diskstation that I don't use. So I could attach that via ethernet to the mini? Does using the Synology allow me to use more exciting DLNA options or am I limited to the ones that can be controlled via IOS (as I will use an IOS controller?). Can a NAS be a Roon endpoint - if network connected? -

Interesting thanks - on the upload point I have resigned myself to taking out to the mac if I can't copy across to it due to continuing bizarre network issues -

I give up with networking, tweaking comes to nothing - hard -wire here I come I am thinking about using the internal storage capability. My library is such that to cover everything I should go for 1TB. However a 1TB SSD is expensive - the HDD option is much more attractive. Is this a bad idea? What drives would be recommended? eg this one? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Seagate-1TB-Laptop-SSHD-2-5-inch/dp/B00BSH3CCC/ref=sr_1_2?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1474368220&sr=1-2&keywords=seagate+momentus+1TB -

Thanks for the advice My router is a Virgin Media router that then passes through to the AE that is then connected by ethernet to the powerline. The mac is connected by ethernet to the AE as well. The Powerline is needed as wireless is flaky in my house ( I accept the shortcomings you mention) and the room the Aries is in is too long to have ethernet. -

Interesting thanks The Powerline is working fine for everything else - and is certainly allowing me to access Tidal on the Mini My router is a Airport Express - can I install Minimserver there?? Even if it is looking to the Mac for the music files? -

Hi I am using it in my 'main room' hifi - connected to Rega DAC and Naim amp. It is then connected via Ethernet to a Powerline adaptor to connect to my iMac in the study. -

I haven't used my Aries Mini for a while - tried to fire it up and couldn't connect to MinimServer running on my Mac. It worked previously - no configuration in my network has changed. It is very frustrating that you can't just go to the Lightning DS and it works. Any tips - I'm frustrated that the Lighning DS server it self won't connect and now Minim won't either. My software is uptodate and my ARies is connected via ethernet to my network
