  1. Just for the record, i am not a woman hater...i LOVE all women! I would probably even prefer the forum if it was dominated by women! I love my wife, and i accept all aspects of her, knowingly different.
  2. Again thanks for the response....I don't think it is snake oil, and have actually contemplated buying one, even as frugal as I am...i probably would have bought one, but don't want to wait until July...I figure i will just wait for you to be caught up with orders. I am also curious as to one of the reviewers that did say he heard a definite difference, but wasn't sure he could hear a difference when coupled with the Schiit wyrd. I guess the positive thing about it being separate from the dac is that you can upgrade dacs in future and still have "cleaner signal" gadget....but i am also the same idiot that wants a good dac in the avr so i can have an all-in-one product (grin). It does surprise me though that you don't think you would be able to convince large dac manufacturers that the clean input would mean a better output... I personally am sold on the concept, and am positive you believe in the product...just a little surprised you don't think you can get rich by licensing to DAC mfr's. Well, either way, i will keep my eyes on when you get caught up on orders and additonal feedback around the forums. Good luck either way...
  3. The bookshelf speakers are B&W 685s2 (new model with rave reviews...they are decent imho). Yea, the sub is a velodyne 15" and has serious bass, but it wasn't as musical and tight as my HGS 10" non-ported....I will probably replace the velodyne 15" with a non-ported sub..i was much happier with. (i will keep the 15" for our home theatre system...it literally shakes the house in right parts for movies). Yea, my wife was with me when i bought the mannequin at a swapmeet..she even helped me dress it..that was fun...we both had fun with it...haha.
  4. ^^^ we have that rule about whoever is driving sets the environment (e.g. music, a/c temp, windows, etc...) Of course I am usually driving, but when she does drive she reminds me that she gets to set the environment. It actually is very reasonable imho...especially on long drives where we both take turns driving.
  5. My wife cooks and does laundry...cleaning, not so much...but she doesn't seem to mind my constant buying/selling stereo gear...she even buys it for me. She is always bringing me home something new to try from garage sales. She actually scored the advents and thorens turntable in my other post. And when I bought the paradigm studio 60s that i bought for resale, she tried to convince me to keep them...i should have listened to her... She lets me decorate too, including my girlfriend in the corner...
  6. ^^ You say that is essentially "just a usb hub", but then you go on to say "For someone to get anywhere near the same performance as the REGEN..." If you think it vastly improves the performance, i would think that all DAC manufacturers would want the circuitry in their DAC and would be willing to pay licensing agreement to incorporate it if it would improve the dac's performance. I would rather have a dac that included such circuitry before the input stage than to put a hub in-line. It would seem the DAC manufacturers would love to state that they had the cleanest digital signal on the input stage as part of marketing. If the claim is as good as you suggest and difficult for anyone to get "near the performance", it certainly sounds marketable to me...and should be sellable to large DAC manufacturers for circuitry within their DAC?? Either way, I am sure if you thought you may be able to make millions, and that you have already considered such options, and decided it wasn't in your interest...bummer we can't get a dac with your circuitry on the input stage, i am sure similar circuitry (or at least circuitry which is supposed to do the same function) will make in future dacs...
  7. ^^^Once you know certain vintage gear goes up in value due to it's "classic" status, they will usually continue to go up, at least along with inflation. You may not be able to predict which current models will go up, but once they are "deemed" classic, they will likely to continue to go up and could be purchased as investments (similar to investing in classic cars). Of course they could go down too, but that is not "usually" the case, especially if you keep it pristine....some marantz solid state recievers will always be good investments too...e.g. the 2600.
  8. it must not be that effective if you know there are people that are defending it (wink).
  9. as long as things are kept into perspective, like knowing who is saying what, sometimes wrong opinions and controversy will bring out deeper conversations and clarity....jmo
  10. if you raise above 40, you probably have speakers and sub handling above 40...make sure you adjust your kefs too...again, something you may need to experiement with what sounds most natural....with my setup with my B&Ws and velodyne...80 seems to be the sweet spot (e.g. 80 and above b&w, below 80 velodyne)...also remember your baffles.
  11. Trolls aren't necessarily a bad thing as long as it doesn't get out of hand....they add diversity and spice to an otherwise boring thread...
  12. Also, your kef's came with sponge baffles, you can adjust the bass with them as well. For me personally, i think $150 is a small investment for a sub, and if you can resell it for that, go for it...your experiments can include with the sub. Even if your bookshelves can go down to 42hz, the sub is designed specifically for the lower frequencies. i would probably set the crossovers for both the sub and the speakers at 80hz...but that is another thing you can experiment with 60-100. Again, small investment to play with especially if it has good resell value. I personally would think that you should want to save up for a non-ported used sub...for your size room an 8" non-ported sub will give you much more musicality and provide more than enough ample bass.
  13. I recently sold a thorens turntable from the same seller of the advents....it too, was in the original box. Man, that thing sounded sweet...better than my pioneer, but i mostly keep my pioneer for the aestetics, plus i have too much money into refurbishing it. I guess you can say i am holding on to my pioneer as an investment since i will likely hold onto it until i die...it probably won't go up more than the cost of living index, but who knows...
  14. THese ones were refoamed a few years ago, and have little use since then...i did notice they were refoamed with convex vs concave though like the oginal ones...(a little bummed they don't match aesteically with the convex refoam). I haven't listened to them since i got them...someone else told me i should have a listen that i would be surprised...i thought they wouldn't be worth a listen due to the paper cones and relatively simple design....but maybe i will break them out of the box....
