1. Another analog to that so far discussed(excuse the pun) is in the world of music synthesis. There is a huge explosion of analog synthesizers being produced in the last few years, and increasing at an accelerated pace. As a guitarist, I have noted this with interest. Despite the tremendous capabilities of software based synthesis, many people are buying new hardware analog synthesizers, because they aren't feeling inspired by sitting behind the computer screen making adjustments with a mouse. Physical devices you can touch with knobs and switches and transistors, etc. are making a comeback. Korg has released a series of analog synths, including the revival of the Arp Odyssey, and a number of others. Not just happening with music reproduction, but with production as well. As a 25 year software development professional, despite being involved in a number of very interesting and well received commercial products, I always found the limited shelf life bothered me. I built a substantial woodworking shop, and have produced items that I can touch and see, and will survive me for generations. Something very satisfying in that as well.
2. OK, I'll weigh in. I want to see a solution that does a great job at things that should be unique to the provider. For me, that is not so much providing me with the storage pieces, but a good D to A converter, a great UI that makes it easy for me to integrate my existing music regardless of source. I want unlimited expandability with drives I can provide, or storage solutions like Drobo or others. There is nothing worse than a hardware box that doesn't allow for media expansion with off the shelf USB, Firewire, SATA, or Thunderbolt drives. Add value where it is obvious, not where it isn't that you are adding value. I want the software to adapt to new audio standards and video storage as well, but for me personally, that is a lower priority. Take advantage of mass manufacturers economies of scale, and focus on the proprietary software pieces.
3. Chris, This is a terrific article. It really deserves to be set-up somewhere as a wiki that can be updated by people as time goes on, particularly with the supposed simplified iTunes coming which may mess with meta-data organization, etc. As new software solutions to this issue comes along, we could all contribute and review solutions, etc. I think it is really that important, given the # of users who haven't gotten to this point today, but will soon. In any case, this article gives me the courage to finally try and setup a central server that can be shared and easily managed. Thanks again for your thoughtful work!
4. Congrats on moving ahead with an update. Would love to see a separate section in a document format for primers on ripping DVD-Audio, SACD, suggested tools for Mac, and recommended equipment. Much easier to read than a sequence of posts in a forum. Thanks for a great site, looking forward to contributing more in the future as I get my server setup.
5. I would love to hear a quick rundown on the new Amarra products, particularly for the Mac. Couldn't make it, health, etc. Thanks so much

Jim V.
San Carlos
6. I was planning to go but health wouldn't cooperate. Can someone please get the scoop (and listen) to Amarra Complete for the Mac? Thanks so much
7. How would you describe the sound? Type of music playing. Did it sound at all bright or recessed? Any impressions? Thanks so much for any comments you might share.
8. I was looking forward to going this year, but was unable to go because my Dog got very sick. I was wondering if we could put in special requests for commments on some of the exhibitors of interest to those of us who couldn't make it. For me, I was interested in hearing about what Emotiva's speakers sounded like as well as comments on Wyred4Sound preamp. If anyone is there, it would be great if you could check those out for me, and comment for the group. Thanks!
