  1. thanks bob, was about to hang myself on the mouse lead but followed the instructions and, low and behold, asio appeared in mm output plugins. not to be outdone, the emu also popped its head up so i now have not one, but two to choose from. i am chuffed. its a doddle this computer music, dont know what all the fuss is about! thanks again for everyones help. will test your patience again when i come to the next hurdle! simon c.
  2. hi guys, thanks again for your replies. i have purchased a EMU 0404 as it seems to pack a reasonable punch at the price £85.00. this has been configured and seems to sound better than my previous usb setup. i am now outputing to my dacmagic via the coaxial spdif connection. the card is asio compliant although i still cant load an asio driver. i have downloaded asio4all as per the forum recommendations and copied the .dll file into media monkeys plug-in directory. i cannot get media monkey to recognise it, which seems to be a problem other users have encountered according to the forum posts. if anyone has encountered, and solved, the issue of loading an asio driver into media monkey, do they have a step by step guide? another thing that confuses me is the difference between the c.a. recommended wave out.dll plug in and the (yet to be loaded) asio.dll. everyone seems to recognise the asio is the best options yet the wave out.dll is the recommended output plug in, is this a conflict or am i misunderstanding something? thanks all for your support. it is a good point that was made regarding getting to hung up on the tec stuff, i am enjoying this journey in a sadistic kind of way although i do miss the on/off and play of my cd player. there is a definate market out there for pre-configured, hassle free, pc based audio systems. do you guys fancy a trip to the uk, you can buy a bank over here for a few dollars now

    k mixer

thanks everyone for your answers and support to my previous questions. i beleive i have to bypass the k mixer. with media monkey loaded and the output plug in: out_wave.dll loaded, has this bypassed the k mixer?, i have tried to follow several threads including the microsoft site and have lent up getting more confused. if anyone has a 'peter and jane' or 'janet and john's' guide to bypassing the kmixer, i would really appreciate it. i suspect i may not have as under : control panel/ sound & audio/volume/advanced/wave, i can still alter the volume from the fader/mute controls. at this point, i am outputiing via usb to my dac. i will utilise my maudio card when my new cable arrives at horrendous costs!! p.s. does anyone know of any cheap lynx cards in the uk many thanks, simon c.
  4. firstly, thanks for a great site that has given me the confidence to take a plunge into computer audio i have set up an experimental system using an old xp based p.c. that was gathering dust and purchased a cambridge audio dac magic dac that is connected via the usb. i have stripped down windows to the best of my ability and loaded media monkey as per your recommendations. i am impressed enough to continue to the next stage. i have a circa 2002 maudio delta 24/96 card that i will employ (once i find the damn cable) that, i hope, will improve things further. once i have established this, i need advice on the following please. the lynx sound card you recommend is crazy money in the uk. ive seen it at £950.00!!, if i use a quality dac, like the bryston bda-1, does the card need to achieve any more than to pass the digital data to the dac? i.e. would my maudio card suffice or is there a substantial enough difference to warrant the lynx card. i would not have a problem if this was hifi kit but i am reluctant to pay for pc kit that will be worth next to nothing in next to no time. i have read favourable reviews on the ASUS XONAR essence cards that are a much more resonable sub £200.00, would you recommend these? finally, the crunch question for me, i have a high end audio system in the front room that needs a source. do i invest some few thousand in a cd player or, is the c.a. reference system the new bench mark?? again, many thanks simon c.
