  1. ouch !!! real newbie I always believed that on the scheme : element 1 - pc source element 2 - external sound card with his Digital Signal Processing specs [ USB hook ] element 3 - AV receiver ( with DTS, dolby decoding ) and signal to noise gain of 100db [ toslink hook ] element 4 - speakers there would be a gain on fidelity on element 2 using source 1 to send to the element 3. That would explain why so many output exists on external soundcar´s. Time to get to basics - Computer Audio Basics | Peachtree Audio mwheelerk , arent you using the m4a format ?
  2. hello, i was looking to acquire a USB sound card for my laptop, since i dont have pcmcia slot. I found on ebay the audiotrack Maya sound card, and made a search on computeraudiophile for infos, search had no results. im also atracted with creative sound blaster x-fi surround pro option, since it says on specs it has a 5.1 chanels outputs. Since i dont have currently pc speakers, i was thinking about conecting the sound card to an old AV receiver + speakers. I have been using the AV receiver to play music [ and whacht mkv´s ] using an asus media player. However sound fidelity on my mp3 files it not very enjoying experience. I assume i will gain some audio fidelity with the above described setup right ? If i acquire the external sound card, the software digital audio processing made, is it transmited to the AV receiver trought digital out conection ? thanks for your insights ! so much to read [ learn ] on this forum !
  3. thanks ! i will activate the trial period on spotify to check in whats offered for offline listening experience, and formats offered.
  4. hi, how about FLAC format , playing them offline ( after download that it ).
  5. hello, sorry to jump in. Does the m4a format spotify present for subscribers, translate into better sound experience ?
  6. hello guys, well im totaly disgusted ! today i have checked another nearby my house deal at much higher price range. The set is made of a Yamaha Receiver RX-V665 + Pioneer S SP50-K 5.1 speakers. I hook my external hard drive with my mp3 playlist using an usb plug to the AV. Same bitrate as it used to play on my pc system. Maybe its me, but i cant recognize and enjoy the same audio quality i had in the past. thanks for this sharing guys !
  7. so dissapointed !!!! well guys, today i had the chance to test an "old" but powerfull system near my place. Found out the equipment on a classified add - Home cinema 5.1 thomson dpl660 500w rms - Vila Nova de Gaia - TV, Som e Fotografia - corresponding to this AV receiver : http://www.theatresystem-manual.com/manuals/thomson/Thomson_DPL660HT.pdf , its the one posted above. The owner show case the equipment with a dvd player conected to the av, and yes it sure plays loud ! But i have to admit, i really miss my pc audio system. I used to enjoy my mp3 music with a creative audigy sound card + creative gigaworks system, and spite the AV system has more power, i cant reallly experience and enjoy the type of clarity and deepth i had with my pc system. Would like to ask, if i conect my sound card to this device ( only possible after acquiring the oldtimer receiver ) , will i find again my sound pleasure ? How come a sound cards have better DSP capabilites that hi-fi systems ? What features im really missing ?
  8. ouch, a video cable to convey audio signal, i wouldbt get it unless i read it here ! hope it will fit
  9. thanks ! what type of cable should i get please ?
  10. im impressed. My old sound card is THX certified and i used to enjoy a cristal clear deepth audio experience. Always think it was due to this feature.
  11. oh, and my sound card manual says i have a digital out plug on it, with a SPDIF AC-3 compressed. Wonder to what i can plug this !
  12. thanks for your relys guys ! i was looking to buy an used home cinema system with a digital in plug lije this one : Does it make sense to inject the signal coming from my sound car to such system ? thanks again !
  13. hello, i was looking on the thx website for sound card with this feature. Sad to see its beeing left over, and even creative sound blaster have a THX software but most arent certified. I got used to this feature on my old system, and since im looking to maybe make a upgrade i looked for equipment with this feature. is THX dead for multimedia sound blasters?
  14. back in Portugal many people use the Nero software to rip cd´s.
