  1. Nevermind I figured it out. In case anyone cares, the Album Artist tag apparently isnt a standard tag. So when using Lame i can add the ID3 Tags to the file but I need a separate command line for the Album Artist Tag. So my command line ends up looking like this -b 320 --tv "TPE2=%albumartist%" %source%
  2. I suck at command lines in general but I need some help here. I followed this guide to setting up EAC to rip my CD collection to FLAC. - https://flacfan.com/posts/how-to-rip-cds-perfectly-on-windows-using-exact-audio-copy-eac-part-1-setup/ Guide worked great and it seems like everything is correct (let me know if anyone disagrees). The command line I was using for FLAC is; -8 -V -T "TRACKNUMBER=%tracknr%" -T "TITLE=%title%" -T "ARTIST=%artist%" -T "ALBUMARTIST=%albumartist%" -T "ALBUM=%albumtitle%" -T "DATE=%year%" -T "TOTALTRACKS=%numtracks%" -T "DISCNUMBER=%cdnumber%" -T "TOTALDISCS=%totalcds%" -T "PERFORMER=%albuminterpret%" -T "COMPOSER=%composer%" -T "GENRE=%genre%" %haslyrics%--tag-from-file=LYRICS="%lyricsfile%"%haslyrics% -T "COMMENT=%comment%" %source% -o %dest% It works and it seems to bring the correct metadata to the file. BUT. I also at the same time want to rip my discs to something like 320 mp3 for ease of use in my car or if my wife or someone wants to use them. Of course I could convert the FLAC to mp3 but I figure while the disc is still in I might as well rip a 320 version as well. So I used the setup in the above guide on a new profile in EAC but in the "Compression Options" I changed the user defined encoder to LAME. The problem is with the command line. If I try to copy/paste the previous FLAC command line to my LAME/mp3 profile, but just change the beginning like this; -b 320 -T "TRACKNUMBER=%tracknr%" -T "TITLE=%title%" -T "ARTIST=%artist%" -T "ALBUMARTIST=%albumartist%" -T "ALBUM=%albumtitle%" -T "DATE=%year%" -T "TOTALTRACKS=%numtracks%" -T "DISCNUMBER=%cdnumber%" -T "TOTALDISCS=%totalcds%" -T "PERFORMER=%albuminterpret%" -T "COMPOSER=%composer%" -T "GENRE=%genre%" %haslyrics%--tag-from-file=LYRICS="%lyricsfile%"%haslyrics% -T "COMMENT=%comment%" %source% -o %dest% It returns an error that says - C:\Program Files (x86)\Exact Audio Copy\Lame\lame.exe: excess arg ARTIST=Track Artist And I really dont understand why I am getting this error. If I just use the command line; -b 320 %source% , this works fine but the album artist field doesn't transfer Can anyone help me? BTW I wasnt sure where to put this post. If its in the wrong forum can you please move it thank you.
  3. Hi John, Yes I wasnt sure if you needed the Bubble Server or not. I was trying without it. Maybe not with Bubble but from the MM support it would seem that it should be accessible externally with without a server (maybe with a different UPNP app). Ill try it again based on your instructions.
  4. I went ahead and added my organized library to Plex. I just made sure to use Local Assets only. Works like a charm. Only problem is some covers arent showing I need to rename them to Cover (rather than manually adding them all). No lossess streaming when streaming to the webplayer and Android app which is fine for parties or the car or whatever. There is lossless streaming to Plex HT. I will continue to use Media Monkey when I am at home. However, I think I will make the switch to JRiver shortly. Its time.
  5. Thanks. Yes that is the frstrating part with MediaMonkey because I am doing all that. I am setting up for example, On the MediaMonkey side my server is set up to accept external connections, all the folders are shared correctly. a Port is allocated and opened on my Router. The folders are shared. Using a popular DLNA/UPNP program for android like BubbleuPNP. I put all the inforamation of my my home server info, external IP address, port (which has been opened and tested). BubbleuPNP just cant connect properly. Same with using MediaMonkey from a Windows PC externally and adding my Media Monkey home server. It finds the server and adds it but it doesnt show any tracks. These are problems I have seen replicated on their forums and I havent seen any definative answers, just things like, ya if it doesnt work know that in the next big update there will be additional support etc. Its looking more and more like I will make the switch to JRiver. I might use plex as a temprorary solution as suggested by the poster above.
  6. Well I only have about 10K songs organized with about 3 times that unorganized, but really looking for a non-cloud solution. I already use Plex for Movies and TV and I love it, I heard the music part wasnt great but I will give it a try. Does it use ID3 tags?
  7. I am a long time user of MediaMonkey. I recently built a file server which is a low powered windows PC running 24/7. I thought I would take the opportunity to fully network my music to the other devices in my house, as well as figure a way to access it outside my house. MediaMonkey works fine for anything inside the house. All my other computers can access my library, and I can run uPnP from the MediaMonkey Android ap and have access to my library from my android devices (within my house). However, I cannot get anything to work externally. I followed all the instructions, trying programs like BubbleuPNP and I couldnt get it to work. I also looked into other solutions like Subsonic but I note it doesnt use ID3 tags and that is how I have everything organized (by tag I dont rename the actual files for certain reasons). I am average at networking, I can open ports and stuff on my router I am doing everythign I am supposed to but its just not working. It seems that in the MediaMonkey forums other users have similar problems and additional support is supposed to come with MediaMonkey 5. I like MediaMonkey but I am not sure I want to wait that long I would like to find a solution now. Is there anything better i can try? I would love to have music stream externally to my phone outside my network, as well as be accessible by web browser. Preferrably with ID3 tags. Is JRiver an option? Any other solutions or tips you have for me?
  8. Ya I was thinking about that. I think a better option would be to just get a semi decent sound card (Asus D2 etc) and run outs to powered speakers or a 2 channel amp and then to bookshelf speakers. I can then run the powered SUB as a separate out. This also gives me the ability to add a center channel in the future a bit easier. I would love to have rears as well but with all tile floors and cement walls, I would need to run long lengths of speaker wire and my wife wont go for that. Any chance my PC can wirelessly send just rear audio to wireless speakers?
  9. Thanks for the fast reply. Yes teh room is huge so I am not sure how to manage this, room correction is a good idea, any Mic recommendations (budget pricing please ) Is there anything to consider when choosing a DAC for this kind of setup, ie one that plays music and movies. For example if I put my Audioengine D1 between the PC and Subwoofer, would I need to think about if the source coming into the DAC (say a DVD movie) was 5.1 audio how the DAC would treat that to 2 channel audio?
  10. Ok I know 2.1 isnt considered to be home theater, but I moved to a new place recently. My 5.1 setup got moved to my "game and movie room" (extra bedroom) and I now have a huge empty living room. My wife doesnt want anything too crazy in there as I have the game and movie room, but I was going to put in a 32 inch TV and hook it up to my multimedia PC. PC audio out would go to a powered sub, something like this 12 inch Polk audio (Polk Audio PSW Series PSW505 12" Powered Subwoofer Single - Newegg.com) . which would then feed the left and right bookshelf speakers. Uses would be for music and movies or TV shows. Eventually I would probably put a DAC between the sub and the computer. Anyone see any issues with this type of setup?
  11. THank you! THat was exactly what i was looking for. I may have changed my mind about the MOBO and case (thinking ITX now with 6 SATA inputs) but the general principles remain the same.
  12. sorry i guess i wasnt clear. I am not trying to build a fanless server, just a quiet one. The case comes with two fans which i will use and I think with those and a quiet CPU heatsink it can end up being pretty quiet. I was just looking for quiet dives to go along with it. It has to go in my living room unfortunately as I live in a very small 1 bedroom apt.
  13. Ya sorry if my terms were not correct. It will be a "nas" in that it will be a network attached storage, but I didn't want a dedicated commercial nas box as I will also be storing movies and want to ensure I can do the necessary transcoding for hd streaming. Thanks for your advice regarding incremental backup, I'll look into it. Now I just need to decide on a case. Leaning toward a fractal mini ,Fractal Design Define Mini Black Micro ATX Silent PC Computer Case w/ USB 3.0 support and 2 x 120mm Fractal Design Silent Fans - Newegg.com , it has six 3.5 bays and two 5 inch bays and it seems quiet (really important for me as my wife can't stand running computers all night and it needs to be on). All the bays have silicon grommets to reduce drive vibrations. I will set up the 5 inch bays to accept 3.5 inch drives so I can use them when I want to do a manual backup. PSU will be a fanless seasonic 400w. Drives will be WD red or green, still trying to determine which is quieter, anyone have a view? Asus makes one matx board with 8 sata 3 connections. Processor will be a haswell 35w, probably an i3. Then I'll just try to find the quietest heatsink and I should be good to go. Still haven't determined if I want to do raid or not. I don't really see the need if you don't really mind to lose a week of data and you are rigorous about manual backups. I read about synchology but I can't really figure it, its basically a program which assists in "smart backups"?
  14. Thanks for your replies both of you. The first point is that im pretty set on a Windows 8.1 server. I dont want a NAS. Im not sure why but I love building PCs so maybe that is a main reason. Regarding mATX v Full ATX basically I saw a lot of mATX cases which woudl work for a NAS. I already have 1 full ATX case and they are quite large (SWITCH 810) so i would prefer something smaller. If you have a recommendation for a full ATX case whcih is smaller please let me know. My last question is regarding manual backup. It appears from reading these forums that lots of members have a manaul backup system, but I cannot yet figure how they avoid over writing files which have not changed. Bit rot and all that good stuff. I would assume there is a simple way to manually back up files but only to select files which changed since the last backup?
  15. I am just about to complete my CAPS server build. Its not a strict CAPS server but it is a mini ITX fanless case (Streacom FC8 EVO), a MSI z87i mobo with a 4770S haswell processor at 3.1 ghz (65W), 8 gb of ram, PICOPSU 160W and a 250 gig SSD running off Windows 8.1 OS. Fanless and no moving parts, my DAC will be USB powered but the data sent by TOSLINK. However, before this is even done I am already thinking about my NAS that I want to build, I have a lot of media that is spread over about a half dozen drives and i need to consolidate all my data and start thinking about a backup plan. I already decided against getting a dedicated NAS but instead will build a mini-ATX PC, Windows 8.1 based server, which will also act as a torrent seedbox. However I am a bit stuck when it comes to selecting RAID and drives etc. This is where I am; - I know about different RAID setups, e.g. Hardward RAID vs Software Raid, and new options such as Windows 8 storage spaces - After researching that it seems like for me that software raid would be the way to go (for various reasons) - However I also understand that RAID is not a backup, and RAID brings a lot of issues as well - Next there is an issue with storage. Sure drive space is really cheap, but mATX MOBOs usually have max 6 SATA connections so that means you can get say four 4tb SATA WD Red drives and that gives you 8 tb usable space, with a RAID1 setup. The last two SATA connections would be for my SSD for the OS and 1 slot for a 1tb drive which will be used for seeding torrents - BUT this doesnt address any backup issue. So that means i would need at least another 8TB in drives to act as a backup. Additionally I have already at least 6TB in data and its filling fast so 8 might not even be enough in several months. I want to be prudent but I want to be sensible as well. What about this option: I ditch the RAID idea all together. I build my server as described above but I use three 4 TB drives (+1TB drive for torrents and the SSD for the OS). This gives me 12 TB of usable data with 1 open SATA slot for expansion. I then buy an additional three 4 TB drives to keep them as offsite backup. I do the backup every week or once every two weeks. If a drive completely failed in between that time, well I would lose 1 or 2 weeks of data, but that is something I have considered. Anyone have any thoughts postive or negative about such a setup? One last question - when doing a manual backup of data, how do you ensure that the only data which is transferred on teh backup is data that has changed since the last backup? I want to avoid overwriting a bunch of songs etc if they have not changed. Thanks CA for all your help.
