  1. Thanks Chris. looks like I need to dig out a Windows computer and see what it will do (primarily reallocating channels is my desire). Trying to get some 5.1 SACD rips to work.
  2. Quick question only tangentially relevant… does Music Media Helper work with dsd files?
  3. I'm bypassing my Mac and using a Linux command line to rip. The two guides I used were — https://gist.github.com/YCHX/535b9a29ebe67b186ff4af83f4ed411b — for general details of the process and then — https://github.com/sacd-ripper/sacd-ripper — has the actual sacd-ripper programme you need to run on your computer. The first link gave me this forum post — https://hifihaven.org/index.php?threads/rip-sacd-with-a-blu-ray-player.3652/page-2#post-69237 — (written by @MikeyFresh from this thread?) which gave me the correct files to download for to put on a USB stick for the player. Also, in that first guide, ignore the steps 5 & 6, instead of putting a disc in and turning the player off, with my Cambridge Audio (which is essentially the same player as the Oppo 93/95 on the digital side) you put a disc in and close the tray using the 'eject' (open/close) button. The disc reads and (so long as you've turned off Auto Play and Auto Resume) can be accessed via the sacd-ripper programme (there is a GUI but I didn't use it). I then type the command line sacd_extract -i <ip address of player>:2002 -P to view the details of the disc inserted, and sacd_extract -i <ip address>:2002 -2 -m -s -o <output_folder> Hope this helps.
  4. Got it working (it appears - doing the first rip now). I hadn't turned the auto-resume function off!! Thanks again for the help Mikey!
  5. Thanks Mikey… gives me hope. I just need to play around a bit more with a few more disks. i don’t care about SACD-R so will check if i need to do firmware update.
  6. Hi guys… long time member but been away. Returning to being a student meant I was on limited means so no chances to upgrade HiFi, etc. and just wandered away. I’m excited that the Cambridge Audio 751BD has been added to the list as I still have my old player… has anyone managed to get it to work? Or possibly got the Oppo 93/95 working? I think I got the right sacd_extract_95 script which I’ve put on a USB stick. If I insert it in the player (front connector), the tray opens which (I understand) indicates the script is working correctly? But if I put a disc in, then (as I read the instructions) press the off button the player drops off the network. Alternatively, I’ve tried just closing the tray, when I do ./sacd_extract -i (ip_address):2002 -P (which i understand should get the disc details) i get an error message (iirc) Can’t read Master ToC. Any ideas?
  7. The place is just not the same without you, Elf.

Count me with those who noticed.

  8. Late to this party and this may have been raised, but if using consumer level disks, it’s not recommended to have more than around 12TB array using RAID5 - you should look at RAID6 (two parity disks) to guard against potential problems rebuilding an array. 12TB push beyond the statistical probability of coming across n Unrecoverable Read Error which will cause the rebuilt to fail (of course you might come across such an error after 1GB or not until 36TB of data being read).
  9. Hey folks... ages since I’ve been around these parts as I’ve been happy and avoiding itches but now have a question. Putting together a desktop audio system probably with a pair of Tannoy Gold monitors and existing B&W P5 headphones; stuck over interface... Option 1 (a or b): Focusrite Scarlett 4i4 or MOTU M4. Option 2: Topping DX3 Pro headphone amp / DAC. Has anyone compared these (or similar level pro audio and desktop headphone amp/DAC). Connected to MacBook Pro and/or iMac. Thanks Eloise
  10. It’s not out yet..l but the Naim ND555 supports AirPlay 2 (okay so also supports protocols the OP doesn’t want). (Maybe not really helpful) I was going to suggest Raspberry Pi with DAC “HATs” and similar solutions but someone has mentioned them.
  11. Wow that was unexpected. Finally the iTunes Remote app for iPhone / iPad has been updated to support iPhone X and iPad Pro. They’ve even fixed the bug where artists names didn’t appear on the Album view...
  12. Not sure if you can get them outside UK, but various http://reallyusefulproducts.co.uk/uk/html/boxdetails.php work well for me.
  13. ‘“I first became aware of classical music when I was 15,” he said. “LPs had recently appeared in Britain. I ripped out the mechanism of our old wind-up gramophone and put in a turntable and a three-valve amplifier. I made a speaker cabinet from an old book case, with a sheet of chip-board on the front. The whole system looked pretty crude, but it didn’t sound too bad.’
  14. I read the headline as “Audiophile Imaginary Volume” ... the mind was boggling!
