  1. Hi Superdad, I appreciate your reply. I am aware of Eversolo's connection with Amazon and I do buy things from Amazon all the time but never anything that costs more than a couple hundred bucks, Despite the 30-day return potential with Amazon, I would not be comfortable buying any higher end piece of audio equipment through such a faceless robotic company. On the other hand, I was not aware that ListenUp is selling Eversolo. Thank you for bring that to my attention!!!!
  2. Just a comment .... Eversolo interests me, but I am not aware of their products being carried by any of the major US audio equipment retailers/dealers who offer a 30 day or a 60 day 'satisfaction guaranteed' return policy.
  3. Blackmorec thanks for sharing your approach. I do get the gist, but what you've described is a good bit more involved than I can probably handle in my dotage :-)
  4. Thanks to all for these thoughts and recommendations. Jud, the information in my original post is the result not only of my own reading of what's on the Auralic site but also the result of a long conversation with an Auralic employee at Auralic USA in Oregon. Of course, it's possible I misunderstood what he was telling me, but I honestly don't think that's the case. Bob, I hear you regarding the wisdom of engaging a pro for configuration. But knowing me, I would probably try fiddling around on my own first and then live to regret it, LOL. For now I think I will take Eric's advice start by familiarizing myself with what all is in the FiOS router settings.
  5. I know that wired is always better than wireless; however, in my situation, wired is not possible.
  6. I have recently gotten into using my Oppo player to stream music from Tidal. To do so I have my Oppo connected wirelessly to my 'FiOS Home' router (model G3100). But going forward, Instead of continuing to use the Oppo, I am now thinking about buying an Auralic Altair G1 streamer. However, if I use an Altair to stream over WiFi it is my understanding that Auralic recommends NOT doing so via the WiFi capability of the "router that comes from your network service provider" (https://support.auralic.com/hc/en-us/articles/206072178-Choose-a-Good-WiFi-Router) but, rather, doing so via the WiFi capability of a separate (i.e., a second) router that one would add and then connect via Ethernet cable to a LAN port on the network service provider's router. It is also my understanding that in such a 2-router setup, Auralic recommends using the second router for all wireless connections in the house and limiting the network service provider's router solely to wired connections. As a relative novice to the streaming universe I am wondering if this is what those who use WiFi for streaming typically do, i.e., have two routers, or is this recommendation for a 2-router setup peculiar to the Auralic Altair? Thank you in advance for your observations / advice / recommendations.
  7. I have this same question: Can anyone confirm that Oppo's 23 January 2017 release of firmware 83 - 1226 is ok to use for sacd ripping. I realize 'One and a half' previously responded to 'bailso' with "Firmware updates are not important, many Oppos are in different countries with varying firmware and still work as SACD rippers." Yet given that firmware updates made all the difference in the world with the old Playstations, I'd still like to know if anyone can confirm direct hands-on personal experience doing successful sacd ripping AFTER updating to the Jan 23 firmware release on his or her own Oppo?
  8. Forgive me if this has already been covered ... I haven't gone back to re-read everything. I obtain my SACD player's IP address (in my case an Oppo) as follows and have never had a problem: left click File Explorer > left click Network > right click Oppo BDP-105 > left click Properties The Oppo's IP address then appears on its Properties dialog box. Having said that, the IP address of my Oppo is NOT always the same number. It's IP address today may be slightly different tomorrow. Therefore, I re-check the Oppo's IP address in advance of each time I use the Sonore ISO2DSD application and then edit the IP address field in the ISO2DSD application when necessary. The key point here is to be aware that the IP address of any network connected device is subject to change any time devices connect, disconnect and reconnect to the network.
  9. After finally taking some time over the New Year holiday to sift through this thread I was finally able yesterday, after a few false starts, to successfully rip DSF files from SACDs using my Oppo 105D. Many thanks to Ted and all those on CA who provided the necessary resources and explanations. Much appreciated!
  10. I expressed serious skepticism on two occasions a year ago about whether this project would ever come to fruition. All of those who reacted in this thread to my skepticism back then boo-hooed what I had to say. Frankly, because it is such a waste of time, I quit checking on the progress of this project months ago -- that is, until just now. And confirming my earlier suspicions, the reality is that next to nothing has happened in the year since my last post. I can't believe people are still signing up. I'll check back again in another year. By then there will probably several hundred more waiting for godot. My advice: don't hold your breath.
  11. Patricia Barber's unique and very fast paced cover of The Beatles "Norwegian Wood" from her "Live: A Fortnight in France" is a favorite of mine. The instrumental arrangement and piano playing are Patricia Barber at her best.
  12. The recent jazz oriented release from Caecilie Norby "Just the Two of Us" is top drawer. As the title implies, she is accompanied here by only one other, hubby Lars Danielsson, who handles bass, cello, guitar and some percussion. Instrumentals are spare, wonderfully nuanced and exceptionally well performed even as center stage is given to the vocals. 5 Stars.
  13. The third Carmen Gomes Inc release (titled "Little Blue") is now available at Sound Liaison. I've only listened to it twice so far. Good. Not great. Maybe it will grow on me, but at this point I can't say my socks have been knocked off -- although I do think her cover of Nina's Little Girl Blue is very well done.
  14. For covers to rip your heart out try Little Jimmy Scott's "Holding Back the Years" with favorites including The Crying Game, Holding Back the Years, and Nothing Compares 2 U.
  15. Being a fan of Blue Coast Records that's where I came across Fiona Joy. I have her "600 Years in a Moment" and really enjoy the atmosphere of relaxation and contemplation that it stimulates. Another nice piano album which can be found at Blue Coast Records is Paul de Benedictis "The Power of One." I don't really know what the right way is to classify albums like these in terms of genre, but I tend to think of them as 'new age piano' or 'atmospheric piano.'
