HI. I'm running focal cms50 on my desk with a Schiit Gungnir/Mjolnir pre with balanced connections. I'm looking to upgrade for improved sound-stage, resolution and better low-end power. I'm not looking for a sub. I will be using it at low'ish volume levels due to apartment living. I like my current monitors, but what would be a good upgrade path? I notice most passive hifi speakers are not aimed at near-field listening, which I will be doing. I also like the no-fuss approach to integrated amps. Speakers i've looked at, CMS65, Solo, Dynaudio monitors, event opals, K&H. These are all aimed at the professional market though. Thanks al

I bought a Gungnir for my powered focal studio monitors. Each monitor has its own volume control. Now, what is the best way to have a central volume control without degrading the signal quality? Would a pre-amp be the best solution? Any recommendations for a good pre-amp that would work well in this chain? I'm also looking for a decent headphone amp. If there were a product that could kill two birds with one stone, that would be great! Thank You Alan

Newbie with focal active studio monitors (cms50) looking for a first dac around $1k or less. Upgrading from a cheap CD player and cheap speakers. Music tastes are all across the board, from indie, EDM, pop to folk, classical, soundtracks. Planning to use it with USB on Laptop. A streaming wifi dac would be a plus but not necessary. Intend to use losless cd rips, streaming music service/radio and hi-res downloads. DACs I am considering due to research so far below. Also, I prefer a sweet/musical sound yet vibrant. not too dark/mushy with decent details. I like smooth clear highs that are not harsh. NAD 1050 Schiit gungnir USB 2 ps audio nuwave arcam irdac Others? Also, to the knowledgeable folks here, will I need a preamp ideally for my setup? Thanks for your advice. ad
