  1. Hello, for years I have been managing my music library with iTunes. A very nice thing was when some day I found that I could even easily manage booklets (as pdf files) within iTunes: Just throw them into the "automatically add to itunes" folder, edit album- and album-artist-name and then the file gets automatically moved into the album folder and the booklet appears in that particular album just below the last track in the main window. This week switched to a new Mac with Music.app instead of iTunes. The import of the library went very smooth and reliable, existing booklet files were displayed within the corresponding albums just like before. But now when I add a new album and add the booklet pdf just like before (including editing meta data), the pdf file still gets moved into the album folder, but within the Music.app window, the booklet file does not move into the album to get enlisted below the album tracks, it just remains on the highest level as if it was an album itself (see attached screeshot). Of course I checked the correctness of tagging already. Could it be there is something in the settings that I need to change? Any idea how this behaviour could be fixed? Best regards Stefan
  2. Hi firedog, have you ripped the highres version of the original album from the Blu-Ray Disc? If yes, is it an audible improvement over the plain CD version? I read the Blu-Ray highres version is supposed to have a DR +2 higher (average DR: 11) than the CD (average DR: 9). Best regards Stefan
  3. Hello, has anyone tried how much USBridge signature responds to different LAN cables? Does it benefit from a good "audiophile" cable or is the implemenation of the LAN interface made in such an effective way that all cables are the same? Best regards Stefan
  4. Hi, may I ask what the intentional purpose was for those two diodes? I have a DigiOne signature running on a RPi3 until now and most recently got a USBridge signature. Would the DigiOne signature with the diodes removed/bridged still work on RPi3 in case I would want to go back? Another question: I would like to have pCP7 running with the new USBridge sinature / DigiOne signature combo – is there anything special I have to consider during installation of pCP in regards to the different hardware of USBridge signature in contrast to RPi? I remember when USBridge was out new there were some things about LAN interface? Best regards Stefan
  5. Hi, I understand that USBridge signature uses more than 30 LDos to lower the noise floor compared to a standard RPi. As for the RPi Compute Module – does this unit still contain some lower quality LDOs/SMPS-chips? Best regards Stefan
  6. Hi Kirk, I see. The reason for keeping the library completely on an external HDD is that this way I can work on the library on different computers in two different locations. Until now this was quite reliable and probably I should regularly backup the .itl file. This time it was just very little things of editing that I'm loosing, really no problem to repeat that after repair. Thanks again Stefan
  7. Hi Kirk, thanks a lot! Actually the copy on the NAS serves only both as backup and as file basis for LogitechMediaServer running on the NAS; it never gets used with iTunes. My "working" iTunes library, which I use to import, sort and edit albums, is on an external USB HDD. Can this cause such problems? I do it this way for years now and never faced this kind of problem before, though. Best regards Stefan
  8. Hello, this morning my iTunes library got corrupted: On launching, iTunes (12.8.2.3) out of the blue messaged something like "Importing ‘iTunes Music Library.xml’", then said something like the xml file would be corrupted and if I would like iTunes trying to repair it – that failed. After that iTunes opened with a handful of albums instead of several hundreds. I can see that both "iTunes Music Library.xml" and "iTunes Library.itl" are much smaller than they were before, .xml was well beyond 100 MB (now 600 KB) and .itl about 20 MB (now 91 KB). If I try to copy the most recent "iTunes Library.itl" from Previous iTunes Libraries, Finder says the file is corupted and can't be copied. Tried a little later again, now the file gets copied but is has a file size of 0 KB (instead of 20 MB). I have a very recent copy of my iTunes library on a NAS. Is it as simple as to take both "iTunes Music Library.xml" and "iTunes Library.itl" from the NAS and substitute those files in the iTunes folder on my HDD (my "working" library), launch iTunes and everything is back except for the very last changes I did after that backup? Or is it even enough to swap just one of the two files with the backup version and if yes, which one? Best regards Stefan
  9. Hi, can I use both SPDIF outputs (BNC & RCA) in parallel at the same time and feed two different DACs? Best regards Stefan
  10. You might also want to check soundcheck's comprehensive advice for setting up pCP: https://soundcheck-audio.blogspot.com/2018/01/raspberry-pi-audio-engine-1-introduction.html (part 1-6) Especially part 2: https://soundcheck-audio.blogspot.com/2018/01/raspberry-pi-audio-engine-part-2.html
  11. I'm enjoying an Allo DigiOne signature on an RPi3 since more than a year now. I have been following this thread from the beginning, but still I do not understand if there is any benefit for DigiOne signature users in swapping their standard RPi for a USBridge signature? Like many others I found that a very good LPSU feeding RPi and DigiOne signature makes a nice difference even to batteries and furthermore I found that a Cisco 2960 in front of the RPi gives a nice improvement too. The influence of PSU quality for RPi and the influence of the switch in front of it was a clear indicator that DigiOne signature is sensitive to what's going on in front of it despite its claim for being galvanically isolated from RPi. I understand that Allo has adressed many weaknesses that are inherent within the standard RPi hardware. Much of that seems to contribute to a better audio USB output performance, very welcome to those using USB DACs. With DigiOne signature it seems, the main advantage of USBridge signature vs. standard RPi melts down to the improved performance of the LAN input, would you agree? I can only guess if possibly the Cisco 2960 switch has some similar "cleaning" effect on the standard RPi LAN input? And to what extent? Thus I wonder if a USBridge signature / DigiOne signature combo goes beyond a standard RPi / DigiOne signature combo with the Cisco 2960 switch in front of it? Anyone tried that?
  12. soundcheck-audio.blogspot.com Hi Franz, I'm using LMS on a NAS that holds my music library as well and have piCorePlayer on the RPi. Using iPeng as control point I can confirm that the LMS ecosystem is very comfortable and can be very nicely be tailored to one's personal needs by simply activating those of the numerous plug ins available within LMS you're interested in. I actually never tried Moode as squeezelite endpoint instead of pCP but after everyone is praising SQ with Moode, I wonder if it might beat pCP for SQ? Did someone recently do a comparison between the two? By the way I use pCP with settings according to Klaus' (soundcheck-audio.blogspot.com) suggestions which means the RPi/piCorePlayer system is slimmed down to the very essential processes.
  13. So USBridge signature did not perform considerably better than standard USBridge plus Cisco 2960?
  14. You'll find them for cheap on ebay... Cisco WS-C2960-8TC-L is the unit to go for – the higher number port versions do have a fan inside which should be avoided of course for audio purpose.
  15. Did you find a way to use Cisco 2960 in conjunction with USBridge sig? I liked very much the improvement that the implementation of Cisco 2960 brought up and it would be sad to be forced to forego this step of improvement with USBridge sig.
