  1. Forget about it, Marcus has already waved his white flag and said if you guys are willing to buy yet another his newer OS X driverless products he is willing to give you discount... but I won't buy his products any more.
  2. Nice to know both your U192S and X1 work fine. I use X1 to connect to CA 840C which happens to have sampling rate display so it does not bother me about the X1 without display. I seriously avoid any async USB sound gadgets that require OS X driver - just too hard for small vendors to write a decent driver update every year to match new Apple OS X requirement. The tragedy of M2tech is simply too unbearable.
  3. Before I bought Peachtree X1 replacement last month, I did sincerely consider HiFace 2 - however from what I read even the XMOS-based HiFace 2 cannot run on El Capitan directly, but you have to ask Marco for a firmware upgrade before you can use it on El Capitan, while Peachtree X1 runs without any firmware upgrade / driver. Given how M2tech handles the HiFace driver, I absolutely do not want to get burnt again when the next macOS Sierra comes out - who knows if Marco has to "re-develop" the firmware again just to fit Apple's requirement and never delivered? BTW been using the Peachtree X1 for a few weeks now, no issue so far on El Capitan, sounds similar to HiFace did, so I assume it can be a safe choice for replacement.
  4. I just did similar thing - were using m2tech HiFace for quite some years to drive my DAC, m2tech offers no El Capitan driver and finally dump it and replaced it by Peachtree X1. So far the sound quality is more or less the same between HiFace and X1, or maybe I got old ears...
  5. Just bought a Peachtree X1 24/192 SPDIF and got rid of the HiFace. Now my Mac can finally be upgraded to El Capitan, and hopefully later the upcoming macOS. The HiFace converter has served me good for the past few years, but m2tech did not.
  6. My Mac at home is still running 10.10 just because hanging with this HiFace, and macOS is already coming. Am seriously considering to get rid of this crap and buy another driverless co-ax SPDIF USB adaptor instead. Any good suggestion?
  7. The Mavericks driver is 64-bit. Your Mac machine running Snow Leopard most likely is running 32-bit (only very few Mac default boot to 64-bit in Snow Leopard), so you probably cannot use it.
  8. Not sure about that. Are you using the v1.2 version of driver from M2Tech web site, or the one the developer posted in this thread two weeks ago? Anyway if you are playing 32-bit data stream then it is good for Integer Mode.
  9. For BitPerfect users: just in case if you are not aware, you need to set the Max Bit Depth to "Maximum" or "32-bit" in order to use Integer Mode. Normally BitPerfect (when Max Bit Depth = "Automatic (Optimal)") will try to best-match the closest bit depth of the device to the audio bit depth (which is either 16-bit or 24-bit audio). The v1.2 M2Tech driver enabled the Integer Mode support in 32-bit only. It will revert to normal float mode in 24-bit as confirmed by BitPerfect team.
  10. Since the new 1.2 driver can handle integer mode properly, I finally go ahead and installed Pure Music, configured the integer mode, and enjoyed over an hour of music. I do appreciate the integer mode which gives a much better wider audio dimension than using iTunes alone. Can't help but to thank panickingas again - you really make my day. Thanks! p.s. yes, the Pure Music integer mode configuration is a real confusion - why you have to separately enable Memory Play in menu but all the rest in Audio Setup? And what the h-ll is that Input/Preamp (which must be enabled or no sound) in menu which I can't find anything from user manual pdf...
  11. yes. Check the previous msgs in this thread to remove the W4S driver before you install the new Hiface driver.
  12. panickingas: The 1.2 driver works with no clipping thru iTunes playback anymore. I would say it is at least working at the same level as the W4S alternative we were using until last week. Good job! And while people at this forum are pushy and demanding (mostly because we have waited more than 6 months for this driver...sigh), please understand we all appreciate the effort from you and your colleagues who produce this driver, and we do understand it takes time to tune / fix / mature the driver to perfection. Continue your good work! Cheers!
  13. Removed the async192 driver, reboot, install the new M2Tech Maverick driver, reboot and everything looks fine. No more explicit manual load of driver in console. Good. But clipping! When I play music using iTunes, if the volume is turn to 100% (which is supposed to be the "lossless" state of playback, right?), clipping happens on loud signal. Turning down the iTunes volume by slightly less than 10% removed the clipping - at least from my hearing. I am using the HiFace 1 to drive Cambridge Audio 840C CD player/DAC. I wonder if the 32-bit integer format is clipped to 24-bit in SPDIF stream, as I noticed that the 840C always displaying 24/44.1 => 24/384 (840C always up sample everything to 24bit/384KHz). My computer setup is a MacBook Air (2012), i7, 8GB RAM running Mavericks (of course!) 10.9.2. The HiFace 1 is directly connected to USB 3.0 port at the left side of MacBook Air. panickingas: see if you can investigate into this... thanks.
  14. That's the exact reason why I asked. I was using the 159r2 when I got it the first time after reading your message. Anyway the driver is fine so far and besides the trouble it takes to do installation, it is near perfect to me. Hopefully I can sit back and forget about all the Mr. M issue until Apple gives us another OS X that breaks everything - again hopefully by then I should have upgraded my 840C to a driverless DAC. Thanks Huy again for all the effort to ease our installation! You are great, man!
