  1. Hi all I used to DJ many years ago, using vinyl. It's something I mean to get back into at some point, but for a variety of reasons I think I'll go down one of the digital routes if/when that happens. Part of the plan will be to digitise all of my vinyl (around 600-700). But that got me to thinking how stable my decks are in terms of speed / tempo / pitch. When I did mix way back when I used to beat match, and the two records would always drift slightly and need constant tiny adjustments. I never did fully understand whether that was inherently a vinyl thing or just me not being that good at it! One of the attractions with vinyl would be more stability, but if I am playing an unstable recording of a digitised vinyl, then I guess I'd still be in the same boat. Any thoughts on this would be most helpful. I should add that my decks are Numark TT-1s (direct drive) and they do have a Quartz button. But would Technics be more stable? Or would a HiFi deck be a better choice? Are there any turntables which are highly regarded for their stability in terms of pitch shift? Many thanks Max PS - hope it is ok to ask this here. I know it is not a DJ forum, but I also presume there will be a lot of turntable experts here
  2. Hi all Thanks for having me on the forum, and thanks to "Computer Audiophile" for the most helpful "CD Ripping Strategy and Methodology" which brought me to the forum. I've read it a couple of times now and gathered a lot of helpful info from it. I do however have a few questions.... 1. Since it was written a few years back now I wondered whether the decision to not use FLAC for the Archival is still the same? I was planning to use compressed FLAC (-5) for both the Working and Archival copies. Any criticisms of this decision would be most interesting to hear. 2. Since it was written, an uncompressed FLAC has been developed. See: dBpoweramp's FLAC Lossless Uncompressed | AudioStream How does this change things? 3. RE: the decision to not use Ultra Secure Ripping. If the DBPA rips match AccurateRip, the process ends there and no further action is taken. Ultra Secure Ripping is only called to action when the rip does not match AccurateRip/when there are errors. With that in mind, do you/does anyone think it is worth keeping Ultra Secure Ripping on all the time? Many thanks Max
