  1. The Hex has a power button on the front. If powered off it will default to coax 1 upon turning back on. As I use a BNC cable I have to hit the coax 2 button. I believe it is powered off at plugin and have to depress the button to turn back on.

    Audirvana 1.4

I have been using Audirvana for about a month, and find that my converter, a Metrum Hex, can become unduly sibilant if the settings are not just right. I plugged in the settings you provided and find that it has helped a lot, but short of reinventing the wheel, I was wondering whether you could provide advice on which parameters effect sibilance the most and how to alter them to reduce this high frequency emphasis. I too use4x upconversion with my dac and have the Diverter Hr before the DAC. Alex says: "By the way, since I know someone will ask, my current advanced iZotope parameters (DAC specific of course) are, and I have spent at least 6 hours over several sessions bracketing to arrive at these--though they are subject to change: Steepness: 7 dB (amazingly, once I got close to the sweet spot I could hear a clear difference down to a half-dB step--6.5, 7.0, 7.5) Filter max length: 1,100,000 samples (100,000 sample difference plus/minus around my settled upon spot is what I was able to hear) Cutoff freq.: 1.05 x Nyquist (next time I feel like tweaking further, I want to go plus/minus from this in 0.02 steps) Anti-aliasing: at the max 200 Pre-ringing: 0.96 (here too, +/- 0.01 steps around settled upon value were clearly audible; piano and percussion make tuning this one easy; wish I could try some even finer steps, like 0.965, etc.) Lastly, I do prefer upsampling just in powers of 2, so all my Redbook stuff goes to 176.4." Thanks, Charles
  3. Hi Bob, I have the Hex and purchased a Mac Mini to store my digital music files. I was considering either adding a usb to spdif converter or getting Metrum's own usb upgrade. As you own the AP please let us know your experience using this with your dac, especially in comparison to the built in usb converter, if you have it. Thanks, Charles
