  1. Planning to enter the (for now) daunting world of computer audio. My digital front end is a MSB transport and DAC. The DAC has USB2 Signature 384, an input model which "provides super shielding and isolation and supports sample rates up to 384 kHz". I have decided to have a MacMini-based system with a SSD drive. I shall connect to the DAC via USB. I have trouble deciding on the external hard drive and have the following questions: (1) SSD vs HDD? Does it matter for external? And if I were to choose a SSD: (2) does not having a fan make a difference for external (3) how about bus-powered vs AC? I don't need a particularly large drive. Therefore I have been looking at Thunderbolt SSD drives such as Elgato Thunderbolt Drive+ 512GB, Promise Pegasus J2 512 GB (which can be AC powered) and even the smaller 256GB LaCie SSD Rugged (bus only) or the LaCie Little Big Disk Thunderbolt SSD 512GB (which has a fan). Would be grateful for any advice. I have a nice DAC so I dont want to make mistakes on the computer side. At the same time, don't want to spend money on things like SSD on external if not needed. Thanking everyone in advance! Pedro
