Hello everyone,
I've been thinking about posting here for a while now but didn't really know where to start. I guess I'll just give it a try now to finally get things started. If there's something you want/need to know, tell me.
What I want to do: get some vinyl digitalized at about 24bit/96kHz with a good, clean, warm sound.
Genres: basically everything. country, jazz, death metal, rock'n'roll, you name it.
Some of the hardware:
turntable: Rega P2 with standard tonearm
- channel imbalance I couldn't get rid off (it's there in recordings but not really audible in a "tt -> pre-amp -> amp" setup)
- Aiwa AN-11 system will be replaced in any case sometime soon (Shure M97XE maybe?)
pre-amp: Pro-Ject Phono Box USB V
- internal USB/driver limitation at 16/44,1
- recordings via internal USB interface sound a bit harsh in the high ends
- replacement possible or maybe purchase a and connect to Roland UA-55 or E-MU 0404/0204?
amp: Denon AVR-1713
- will be replaced when there's an alternative for the current needs
speakers: Quadral Korun MK II
Software: Audacity, ClickRepair, foobar2000
Though I know this isn't exactly an audiophile setup (to say the least) I'd like to start recording a good bunch of LPs over again soon. Maybe in a "turntable -> pre-amp -> adc -> laptop" or "turntable -> adc -> laptop" setup without going through the Denon AVR. I hope there's a quality way of doing it this way.
Now I don't really know where to start with the hardware. The amp needs replacement but that's difficult at the moment due to several connected devices. I might as well live with it for a while but still record the LPs in a higher quality way for future use. By the way: an Okki Nokki RCM will be purchased in a couple of days.
Replacing the pre-amp or the turntable is an option, though not preferred. Maybe getting some additional hardware (see above) will solve my problem in a < 500 EUR way? We could go a bit higher but I'd really prefer staying around or below the 500.
Thanks in advance for any help with this!
// EDIT: messed up the thread title... any way to edit it to ADC?
