3. @AudioDoctor thanks for the advice. How would I use this Sonore Rendu if as software for library management, I have Roon, and Nucleus as Roon Core? Wouldn't I need in this case only a CD Ripper?
4. @gellie similar situation for me. I am looking for alternatives to my Mac Mini (mid 2010) to run Roon Core. But can't find real ones. Fact is, that I am still buying a lot of CDs (and vynil too, but that's another story) and need a machine capable of ripping cds and run Roon Core. I consider any Win based solution not a real alternative. In fact, I am also using iTunes to my sync my music on the smartphone while being compressed, and in this case, iTunes is still the best. Isn't it?
5. Wow this is quite an interesting thread! I see evaluating upgrade from a Mac mini to a music server, is so far focused on audio performance, and that's ok. However, I'd like to ask the same question but from the functionalities point of view. Foreword. I have a 2010 Mac mini with upgrade 8GB RAM, now evaluating SSD HDD upgrade. Being fed up with iTunes limitations in metadata retrieval, album correct matching and so on, recently I opted for Roon (Woow). Roon server sits on the Mac Mini itself. The Mac is connected via FW to an external 1TB HDD for music repository, all ripped in .aiff; the music is sent via USB cable to a Rega DAC-R. So far, I do not feel I need much Tidal or similar streaming services. Now, considering the above, I should be fine. Still I am wondering what advantages from functionalities pow would I have upgrading to a Music server. And btw doing that, I should also find a new home for Roon server. Any thoughts? Best Regards from the eternal city! A @firewall416 congrats for your system!
6. Hello All while thanking Joe for intervening into this thread, I am looking forward to hear more from actual Wolf Audio users. thanks in advance A
7. Hello there! Anybody can report own user experience with Wolf Audio Music Servers? On paper, they look quite interesting, flexible and future proof! Eager to read your opinions! A
8. thank you. Though I am not looking for a full alternative to iTunes, eg, for music library & metadata management, playlists etc, I'll be still using iTunes. The problems I see are 2: 1) iTunes is not the best as for audio quality 2) iTunes does not manage HD Files, Which is in your opinion the best player in addressing both the above issues? thx
9. Hi there! I am wondering whether someone has made recently comparisons between these players on Mac platform. iTunes seems still limited to manage only compressed music or CD quality one, while I'd like to start buying HD Music from eg. nativedsd.com & similars. I am looking for best player/best user interface. Also, I'd like to ask if anyone has noticed differences in ripping of these players. So far, I ripped my CD music with iTunes. Is there anything better? thanks in advance for all thoughtful contributions. A
10. Hi All! After long wait, thinking, and some testing, I chose the Marantz HD DAC-1. So far it sound great with ripped .aiff files on iTunes, even though still have to make a close comparison with my reference cdp, the Denon DVD A1. Next steps will be to evaluate other players JRiver or Amarra, or else. considering I have a Mac mini 10.6.8., pls let me know your thoughts and experiences on best players. thanks and have a great sunday A
11. Hi there! Thank you All for your valuable input. Savage, I'd definitely prefer a DAC with a good LPS power section. Audio Elf, volume control is needed only for Headphone output, I am pretty stuck to my preamp as for the analog signal, it's worth far more than the money I paid for. Ps pls say hi to Aragorn in Middle Earth. Yes I think at least I'll include the Benchmark DAC-2. BTW to be added is, also, the about-to be released Oppo right here. Should be out within march 2014. OPPO Digital - HA-1 Headphone Amplifier A
12. Hello Phatoldsun thanks a lot for your precious info! will keep it in high consideration. A
13. Hi there! - formats: I have a lot of ripped cds: some 750 regular red book, other 50 are some HDCD, XRCD, and SACD -and yes, also 2 DVD-A. However, I was saying I'll also start purchasing hi-res music.. - As for power options, I have no specific preference, though I'd say "the most silent one" - I don't need a display, I can live without it. The Yulong, ok, thanks, I'll take into consideration. A
14. Hello All! Today I just shipped to the new owner my first and entry-level USB DAC, the Onix Dac25 I had for the last 2+ years. I am looking for a step upwards, I am trying to make a shortlist of the USB DACs I should really look at, who would like to help me? Here below some info. - must have modern USB digital input and serve also as headphones amp (have the nice AKG K701) - preferred if supports hi-res formats as in the near future I'd start buying also this stuff - preferred if it has XLR ouputs and at least 1 SPDIF input - budget max 1500USD In my shortlist I have now:

Wadia 121

Teac UD-501

Naim DAC-V1 D to A Converter

"And now the questions" (cit.) - Anybody would suggest what else in terms of features the new dac should have? - Anybody would be so kind to tell their expericence comparison experiences which included the above DACs? - which other DACs should I look at? thanks a lot in advance! A
15. Hello All! I am seriously considering to purchase the Teac UD501 as my new DAC/HP Amp. I would like to ask if anyone has had the possibility to compare this DAC with others of similar level and what are its sonic peculiarities. Here there is no possibility to audition it prior to purchase. Also, considering that currently I am using macmini/iTunes as my music source, I'd like to ask info on basic steps to configure it properly to play both pcm files or also hi-res files. thanks in advance A
