  1. At Micro Center they have these very inexpensive rechargeable USB batteries. It was fairly small so probably would need more constant recharging. Is their something special about the Anker that makes it the only choice? The one below is also cheaper, but there were even less expensive ones in the accessories aisle. 2. Agreed. For $10 ($12 shipping) it was a big step forward in micro dynamics for me. Voices, cymbals, reverb, background noises in live recordings, the breath of the solo violinist all came forward. This was powering my PPA Card only. My turntable has never seen so little use since getting back into this hobby.
  3. I'd like to thank you for the advise. I ended up sorting out the flac not found problem due to user error. I had set-up Jriver on my MB Pro first to compare it to Audirvana trial and the eventual music server and did not set it up to watch my music folder on the server. Too many things going on at once. I am starting to get the hang of EAC, but have thought that for some RIPS of low play time or just curiosity I should rip them using Jriver to save time. A lot of time.
  4. Arno I wanted to wait till I used the software before saying thank you. Allway Sync is working great for me.
  5. You'll hear me say this a lot: Budget. So I built a budget computer for my music server and had to use Windows 7 because I couldnt justify Server 2012 right now. So Ive been looking for optimization tips for Win7. I found this and wanted some ideas if I can do most of the tips or if Jriver has already taken care of most of this. Optimising your PC for audio on Windows 7 | Focusrite For example should I do this step or is Jriver playing from memory doing the same thing? I'm scared of screwing something up and not being able to reset something correctly. 3. Enable DMA (Direct memory access) on each IDE channel This allows data to be transferred directly into the memory and can improve audio performance. To ensure that DMA is enabled: - Open device manager - Expand the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers category then double click on each one of the IDE channels - Under the 'Advanced settings' tab, make sure the 'Enable DMA' box is ticked in device properties Please note: this only applies to some hardware and if this option is not available, you should not worry about completing this step.
  6. One issue solved-thanks all. I thought i had set-up auto import, but it took two tries for it to "take" and remain after I hit OK. Weird. I also read a more complete set-up guide and ripping guide here: EAC Setup Guide I also found some set-up info on Jriver as well and went through those guides too. Still so much to learn about the FLAC ext. and to make sure I am doing things properly. I can tell I will need a bigger hard drive soon. Would anyone recommend a hard drive mirroring program (preferably freeware)? I would like to copy my 256GB USB 2.0 HDD to a 1TB USB 3.0 HDD and start using it instead without having to go through iTunes new library hell and redoing my playlists in Jriver.
  7. I have auto import set up. I will try and manually import later today or see if they show up when I restart the computer.
  8. Everything is going great with my first budget home made computer running Jriver till I downloaded EAC (because I'm on a budget and it is free), ripped a CD to FLAC and tried to find it in Jriver. I see it fine in my hard drive folder, I can play them fine if I open them from the destination folder, but they do not show up anywhere in Jriver except in the Playing Now window. Jriver is set to watch my folder for new tracks. Also related I cannot find an answer on Google, EAC page that works for me that creates a folder in my HD containing the artist name and sub folder of the CD title. I can get a custom track name, but no folder. I'm posting now after trying for an hour to Google and read tips, test, change settings in Options in EAC, re rip, etc. Anyone patient enough to help I would appreciate it. I really need to make this work and not pay for dbpoweramp or Easy AC if I can help it. TIA, Ray
  9. Is there any reason I cannot wire in one of my SLA batteries to the SSD? It is a 12v and 8ah battery.
