  1. Thanks. I'm selling it on Craigslist - can't really be bothered with shipping tbh.
  2. Thanks everyone. I ended up putting the receiver on Craiglist and bought a new one: YAMAHA RX-V473 5.1-Channel Network AV Receiver | Accessories4less Just a quick noob question about this purchase: My 5.1 speakers have these specs: Amplifier requirements 10 - 100 W. The receiver I just bought states this: 115W per channel (8 ohms, 1 kHz, 0.9 % THD, 1 ch driven) 80W per channel (8 ohms, 20 Hz-20 kHz, 0.09 % THD, 2 ch driven) Are my speakers safe with this new receiver? I'm not sure how to interpret this information. Again, many thanks with all the help.
  3. Thanks, I've tested the HDMI cables by connecting the PS3 / Cable with the TV, and computer with the TV. The cables seem to work fine. I switched the ARC HDMI with another HDMI to see if that was at fault, but no luck. The most interesting part is when I switch inputs, the inputs for which I have HDMI's connected are totally blank on the TV screen, with the receiver screen saying "D=HDMI3, H=NONE", or "D=HDMI2, H=NONE". For the inputs where I don't have any inputs (DVD etc), the TV screen shows something like "[hdmi] Source=DVD Mode=Auto". Very weird as you said. I think at this point my options are a) call someone to fix this or take it to the Marantz service center b) call Marantz c) sell it and buy a new receiver. Given the frustration and sleepless nights, I'm leaning towards C, esp cos I bought it for pretty cheap from a discount store online. Any advice on the exit options? I mean I can still listen to 'Dolby' from the PS3 and the TV cos I'm connecting the TV via a optical cable to the receiver, but given my speakers cost me ~$2k, it would do them injustice if they're not doing what they do best.
  4. Thanks guys, I did this but still no signal from the receiver. I also did a factory reset on the receiver and reconnected all the cables but no luck. It seems the receiver is just not accepting any HDMI input (I tried connecting it to my laptop and couldn't get it to work either - my laptop when connected to my TV works in an instant). Any other troubleshooting suggestions? I will try calling Marantz customer support over the next week to see what the issue is, but doubt they can be any help over the phone.
  5. Thanks, will do that today and check it out. Really appreciate the help on here - great forum.
  6. Thanks, yes I tried that but no other driver is showing up. I would have thought something's wrong with my computer too, but I can connect it very easily directly to the TV and play music / video. Also, nothing else (cable TV / PS3) seems to work on the receiver.
  7. Thanks everyone, greatly appreciated. While I understand how to do this conceptually, I spent hours today figuring it out but I couldn't run anything via an HDMI from the receiver. Here's what I did: Connected the HDTV box HDMI to the 'SAT' input on the receiver Connected the PS3 HDMI to the 'game' input on the receiver Connected another HDMI from my laptop out to the DVD input on the receiver After connecting all these inputs to the receiver, I connected the ARC port (out) on my receiver to the ARC port on my TV. This means, my TV only has one HDMI connected to it. Unfortunately none of these worked. I did go to the 'Amp' menu where you can assign inputs and meddle around - tried all settings but nothing seemed to work. Just to make sure that I'm doing it right, I'll give quick example of what I did. Assigned 'SAT' to HDMI 3, and connected the HDTV HDMI in the third slot (where it says HDMI 3)on my receiver. When done, I switched input on my receiver to SAT. Unfortunately it was no sound or video for either of the options. I realize this is a pretty long post and apologize. If I can't resolve it soon, I fear I'll have to call someone to my place to fix it, or first maybe call tech support. Thanks again!
  8. Sorry if I wasn't clear - I'm trying to listen through my receiver + speaker system for everything. So I do the PS3 connection as mentioned above and keep the optical from tv to receiver, would I not be able to listen to the TV via the receiver (& 5.1 speakers)? Thanks again.
  9. Hah yeah, Mac def seems like a good option. Seems like I'll go with the HDMI for now.
  10. Thanks, just a follow up: Just to be sure to connect PS3 to the receiver, I just connect PS3 out to receiver in (game), and then receiver out to TV in? Can I continue playing the TV sound from the receiver with this setup? Thanks
  11. No, haven't gone there yet. I looked around more online and people seem to suggest making an additional connection from the receiver out to a TV in (to setup the HDMI via the receiver). How do you configure the control panel for this? I'm thinking device manager.
  12. Thanks so much - just a follow up question. I tried connecting the HDMI in on the receiver with the HDMI out on my laptop but nothing really happened. Tried a few different modes (BD/SAT/Game/DVD) but nothing showed up. My laptop HDMI out seems to be working fine if connected to the TV. Would you know how to connect it? Thanks again.
  13. Hey guys, I'm fairly new to high end audio so this might be a basic question for most. This is my current setup: LED TV PS3 Marantz NR 1402 receiver KEF T105 5.1 speakers A generic toshiba laptop The PS3 is connected to the TV via a HDMI. The TV is connected to the receiver via a optical cable. The laptop is connected to the receiver via the 3.5mm audio cable (laptop audio out to Aux-in on the receiver). My question is, how do I improve the sound from the laptop, since all my FLAC / 320 kbps music is on my computer and that's my preferred source? I had the following options: a) Connect laptop to TV via HDMI and then play music b) Connect laptop to receiver and then play music c) Get an external USB DAC and connect laptop to receiver via this. This seems to be the recommended way, but I'm not sure as the receiver already has a DAC built in, so I'm not 100% sure. If anyone had a better way to setup my equipment, I've love to hear that too. Thanks a lot for your help.
