  1. What is the best way of connecting my Beresford dac to my mac optical or usb
  2. I think i may just try it out on its own for a while then get a dac anyway. as i will need one for uni when i am living a box with no room for anything apart from a bed laptop and headphones. Thanks very much for the help though. What surround amp would you reccomend for music as that will be what i listen to the most. I want to spend between £400 and £600 RRP, and would like to stick to denon, yamaha, pioneer, NAD, arcam or sony. As i work for a sony centre that partnered with hifi shops and i can get these brands at cost. I dont want to ask advice from the store though as the manager will just try and sell me one he has too much stock of. Nice guy! Thanks again
  3. The good thing with yamaha amps is they have a pure direct mode where it bypasses all the unecessary components. And the amp im going to get is about £600 so it would be midrange one. I would love to spend more but im in my gap year and saving for 6 months snowboarding!!!
  4. I have a yamaha DSP-AX863SE plugged into my windows 7 laptop via HDMI with the audio being sent through that too. I want to know weathera adding a beresford TC-7520 dac will improve the sound quality. So basically using this DAC instead of the one built into the amp. I only listen to TV and music though my laptop so only stereo is needed (i use a panasonic bluray for films). The music is AIFF in iTunes, and does anyone know if i need to tweat anything in windows 7 to get the best sound quality. And just of note the speakers are the monitor audio BR5, BR1, BRLCR and a Wharefdales SW150 sub. I presume there will be a difference but how much, and is it worth the £200 price tag. Or is there another non DIY DAC from a reputable brand (not some dude in china making them for eBay) which would be better for less than £200

    AIFF to WAV

i have just bought a new headunit for my car (pioneer 4100 ub) and amoungst other things suports WAV and has an SD card slot. so i was thinking of getting a 16gb sdhc card and sticking my top 20 albums on there. problem is all my music is in AIFF in iTunes so i will want to convert a selection to WAV. i obviously will want to keep the orional files so im after some FREE software that can do this convertion by directory (album#0 whats he bset one which wont loose any audio quality
  6. I am not going to be sharing a flat as i will be in halls and will have my own room so open back headphones are no problem at all. and i dont want to carry around £200 worth of headphones and would much rather use full size headphones for long periods of time
  7. Im of to university to study product design in a few months and am sorting out what stuff i am going to be getting technology wise. I have decided on a macbook pro 15", a beresford DAC, audioengine A2's (will mainly be doing headphone listening due to student cupboard accomodation) and the new dell ultrasharp 22" monitor. Am am looking at getting some new headphones to go with the new set up (currently own the sennheiser HD485's). i dont know what to go for. have always liked the sennheiser sound and use a pair of cx500's with my iPod, but with lots of raving reviews about the grado's i might give them a go, and as they have just upgraded their entire range they seem the ones to go for. so its really beetween the grado sr60i, sr80i, sr125i sennheiser hd555, hd595. i dont really want to pay anymore than £150 so the sr125i's are out the range as in the UK they are £175 and cant justify spending that much on headphones. i will be listening mainly to rock jazz and pop (things like john mayer, incubus, rhcp, death cab and miles davis) but will also be used for the occasional film. So which ones do you think will be best me?
  8. Destop speaker stands I hope there arnt rules for posting ads. But i recently move my hifi to my desk, and when i started listening noticed how rubbish the sound was compared to when the speakers were on stands in the lounge. So i made up little desktop speaker stands which sound immense, i showed some guys at work who loved them too so i made a few for them. I then thought why not see if anyone else wnated them. Basically they are tiny little stands that tilt the speaker back a little bit so they actually point at you. And becasue they are robustly build and use standard speaker spikes, reduce resonance between the speaker and the desk. Anyway take a look at the eBay listing for pics and stuff. O and please big, ha ha http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200324427043 Also if you hace any q's or want some custom made, just ask! And if you think they are crap, i was just an idea and i thought they helped. Im only 17 ha ha
  9. Have been reading what hifi and they give the bereford an amazog review. Little bit more than what i want to spend and as my computer doesnt have and optical output i would need to buy one of these too (any recomendations, cheap as poss please!) But the thing i really want is a review of the beresford and the project usb box by the same people so i can compare!
  10. I know you lot want to talk about dacs for about $450 but i aint go that much spare cash!!! I am looking for one to cost about £150. So far it looks like the M audio transit is the best bet for the price. Im not expecting anything spectacular just cleaner audio from the PC with no PC noise
  11. Hi people. I have been thinking about upgrading my computer sudio for a while. I currently have my laptop hooked up to my TV via HDMI and am sending the audio through that, and then using the analogue outputs from the TV into my HiFi. ( I hear shaking of heads! I know its bad) I did this as the audio of my headphone jacks gets a lot of interfearance (Dell XPS M1330) So basiclly i am looking for a nice little USB DAC that will make my music sound better. I want it to work on both PC and MAC as im getting a Macbook Pro for uni (in about 18 months). I also dont want to spend anthing more than £80 (around $120) I have just ordered some Audioengine A2's for use at my desk, so i want the DAC to be relatively portable so i can move it with my laptop, from my TV to my desk. I wouldnt consider myself an Audiophile, but thats mainly due to me having not alot of money (im only 17!), but i do like my music and spend almost all my money on home entertainment (i work in a sony centre, which is partnered with a REAL hifi shop, so i hear really good hifi sytems from the likes of Cyrus, NAS, Arcam, KEF, Monitor audio etc) My music is mainly stored as 320kbps MP3's in iTunes but am slowly ripping everying in AIFF in another iTunes library, so eventually i will have an iTunes library for my iPod and one for home. I will be plugging it into my HiFi (Denon DM37 and Monitor audio BR1's (about £400 or $600 worth) and my desk speakers (Audioengine A2's £100 or $150 worth) So in short: - Portable (ish) - Mac and PC compatible - Under £80 ($120) - Good sounding obviously I have been looking at the pro-ject USB box which is a very new product on the market, and seems to be exactly what im after. I especially like this as it looks nice (sad i know), is a well known hifi brand, and can easily be upgraded with the same companies award winning pro-ject headbox. Links are here: http://www.project-audio.com/main.php?prod=usbbox&cat=boxes&lang=en http://www.project-audio.com/main.php?prod=headbox&cat=boxes&lang=en Sorry for the long post but i reckon its best to give too much info rather than not enough!
