  1. Am running my music via MacMini with itunes library (quite old version) and streamed thru a Linn Klimax DSM. I have 3 software apps to playback music: Linn Kazoo, Linn app and Roon Problem: -Although all my albums are updated properly, I can only access playlists in itunes via the Roon app, and these playlists are not updating as I add songs. -I cant find an option to play playlists in the Kazoo or Linn apps Is the problem that I may need to upgrade the MacMini from itunes to Apple Music? Any thoughts are appreciated.
  2. Hello, My music system is a mac Mini connected to hard drives and connected via a network to a Linn Klimax DSM. When I rip CD's into the hard drive, I simply drag and drop them into itunes and my software sees the album. Today I downloaded my 1st DSD album, Thriller. The files are on my hard drive, but when I try to drag and drop into itunes, nothing happens. How can I access the DSD files to play them? Any help is appreciated.
  3. I've been using Splashtop personal on my ipad to control my itunes library on my Mac Mini for the past few years. Especially like that it brings up the music library on the ipad. Of late, the app no longer works...the mouse does not function. I've sent numerous queries for support with vague and no responses Are there any other similar apps available? Thanks!
  4. I have the MFSL, and in most comparisons, it is still considered the gold standard. The hi-res PCM's are of varied sources, and the original(pre-2014) was very harsh and disappointing. I have been tempted to compare the DSD download, but have not taken the plunge yet. The Blu-Ray and MFSL are supposed to be very comparable, from those that have heard both. Hope that helps.
  5. Hope some of you early adopters can assist me: Present set up=2009 Mac Mini-USB hard drive-Ayre Dx5 DAC Questions: 1-If I wait for the Aries USB upgrade, I can then avoid setting up a NAS system, and I'd just connect the music on my hard drive to the Aries, and connect the Aries to DAC? 2-I assume I'd still have to have the Aries on my Airport Extreme network to use it? 3-If I want to rip a new CD into my library, would I have to connect the Mini to the Aries via USB to do this? 4-To download hi-res music from the internet, connect Mini to Aries? 5-Using itunes-Amarra now, my iTunes library is not identical to my hard drive library. That is, I've deleted tracks I don't like from my itunes library. Can I still do this if I use the Aries? Would I have to re-edit my library? 6-Are there advantages to using the Aries over the network with NAS drive instead of connected to a USB hard drive, or is it personal preference? Any help is appreciated .
  6. Hi, My present system has a 2009 MacMini-Amarra 3.0 as server with music on an external hard drive. The DAC is an Ayre DX-5. Network is Apple Airport extreme. Control via Splashtop and Apple remote apps. I have invested a considerable amount in my system. Approx 90% of music is computer-based, and 10% is SACD. My computer knowledge is very remedial, and I am challenged maintaining this system at times. I don't really understand what a network or Ethernet or UpnP means, despite reading on this forum. All my ancillary computers are Apple-based including an iPad. My main motivation for change is sonic benefit. I want to be able to add albums from HD Tracks and other hi-res sources, rip CD's as I acquire them into my music library, and still play my SACD's. I'm also rather limited on space in my audio rack which is in the living room, while the network is upstairs. I've looked at the Auralic Aries and Aurender products, but don't really understand the differences between then. I have dealer support for both products where I live. Can anyone guide me as to which upgrade from the Mini might be best suited for my system? Any help is appreciated.
  7. Just noticed that Acoustic Sounds has 4 Billy albums in 24;96 FLAC that are not available as SACD: Cold Spring Harbor Streetlife Serenader River of Dreams The Bridge Has anyone heard these or compared to redbook CD? How is AS reputation for their other downloads, as I have not used them yet? The DR values for these same album downloads on Qobuz are not good... Is it fair to assume these are the same?
  8. I've been using this amp in my system for years;no problems and sounds great. How good is it? I auditioned the mighty and far more $ KXR, and the differences I heard were so subtle, I kept the K5. It may not be the best pre-amp out there, but its a giant killer at its price point.
  9. The Fleetwood mac album is an excellent quality download from HD Tracks. Well worth a purchase.
  10. There's an excellent and relatively low-cost Warner SACD.
  11. Jim, I agree with all your observations above. I've just started using playlist mode, but its certainly a few extra steps compared to using Amarra via itunes. I dont know why the Amarra box is "off" in playlist mode, but I'm confident that this is not a problem. Overall, I'm not convinced yet that the sound quality difference warrants the extra steps, but suspect I will use playlist mode when I have the time and inclination to interact with the Mini, and Amarra/itunes/Remote app if not. Question for others; I get the impression from the Amarra manual pdf that one should quit itunes when using Amarra in Playlist mode. This would mean additional steps as well. I asked customer support if this was necessary, and got the impression from their response that itunes can be left open. What are other doing here?
  12. Rap/hip-hop I dont get it that disco faded away but this crap is still with us.
  13. Just as a matter of background; I have all of Stevie's 70's albums. I downloaded Talking Book in 24;192 from HD Tracks, and could hear no difference relative to my Motown CD. I thought Musiquarium in 24;192 was a significant improvement over the CD. I compared Bird of Beauty from FFF from HD Tracks in 24;192 to my Motown CD and could hear no discernible difference. Very disappointing. Buyer beware I guess.
  14. Another vote for the DX-5. Completely agree with post above.
