  1. I want to keep my music files off of my Mac Mini (which currently has a new 128gb SSD for OS X). I was thinking of either a simple G-Drive 1tb Thunderbolt drive vs a G-Drive Raid. Any thoughts one way or the other? SSD is not an option for me as my music collection is way too big to be cost effective for SSD.
  2. I'm keeping my working computer separate from my music room and hi-fi setup. So having pondered the options for the music 'server', there's the Mac Mini, there's dedicated music servers and I guess there's ways to rig NAS systems to work. It seems the cheapest and easiest way is to go is Mac Mini (stand alone with my hi-fi system). Any thoughts of what's necessary for the guts of it?
  3. Going to order a pair of KEF LS50's, hooked up to Clones Audio 25pm (pair of 25w mono blocks), Clones Audio AP1 (preamp). Initially I was thinking to go with a Mac Mini as a music-only server (no other use). But was wondering if there are any other options in the same price range. If Mac Mini: 1) Go with the 2013 model or hold off for the 2014 refresh? 2) Is new chip and processor speed gonna make any real difference for music? 3) How much memory is needed? 4) Standard hdd, ssd or fusion drive? I've heard people say the movement of the hdd would cause quality issues. Problem with SSD is I'd have to get into the 800gb+ range (not so cheap). But then fusion drive is only fast until the 128flash is filled, then back to hdd. 5) If I get a Mac Mini, I'm gonna add the Clones Audio mPSU which was reviewed to flying colors. 6) Are there any other options for a one unit item that could hold my music files and get them into my DAC or preamp via some wired connection (this device needs to host the files).
