  1. What's with this "vent" here? Make irrelevant and inaccurate generalizations much? Feel better now?
  2. I don't think so. This type of person buying a $135 record (I am among them) would buy a dedicated rack based dac. I am still waiting and am looking forward to hearing the recent Rotel dac which is getting good press. Personally, because digital is evolving so fast, I can't see spending more than a $1000 on an "impulse" buy that would be obsolete in a year or two (see, I can afford the $135 record). Pono is aimed at the 20'something year olds as an entry to high-res / high-end audio. Sure there are other form factors for this entry level like the dragonfly, etc. Pono will compete with the usb stick dacs as something that is more portable than a 'usb stick dac + a laptop'.
  3. I know several "i-device" generation people who recently bought turntables. I have no real idea why. part of it is sound quality. While the masses will always be happy with the next new "shinny" piece of crap (the latest fad restaurant, the fad clothing line, etc) there are still a significant but small number that discern quality. I would not sell this group short so quickly. While the pono may or may not fail it will add to the buzz that high-res is out there. There are enough who when exposed to something actually better than the current "shinny" crap mass market offering reach for the better thing. Motivations are mixed from real appreciation to let me copy my other cool friend. But that is the current high-end market in every venue. From the wine wanna-be snobs to the real appreciators of good wines, to the BMW buyer because "they were told" its the best car to the ones that appreciate fine engineering (and then buy a reliable car :-) ).
  4. I have a NAS (synology 212j). What is SBT and LMS? Thanks!

  6. Hi, thanks! iTunes limits me on high-res files. I have heard plug-ins are available but no experience with them. I'm checking out JRMC!
  7. Thanks, my requirement isn't that the phone send the bits. I only want the phone to browse and to select files on the streamer. My high bit rate music files will be stored on the streamer (or network drive) and want the streamer to send the high rez file to the DAC (or DAC is built in). I expect to use mostly high-bit rate files around music with 96K/24 or 192k/24 being the area of most interest.
  8. Hi All, Though I am a long time audiophile I am only just getting into digital audio and have a bit to learn. Wanted to get feedback on what is available for devices or software that can stream digital content and be controlled from my smartphone (iPhone). What I would like is local storage on the device (hard disk / flash drive) and an app on my smartphone that allows me to browse the content on the device and select and stream it to a dac. The device can be a computer (mac or PC) or a standalone device. Want support for all bit rates (at least up to 192K/24bit). Its OK if the dac is built in but prefer separate since dac quality is improving every year. Suggestions? Thanks!!!
