  1. Hey all, Recently my Creative Megaworks 550 5.1 surround sound system died and I'm looking to replace it. I could pick up the same model again or a better model, the S750 for around 100gbp+, but I'm thinking its better to upgrade. There are plenty of threads out there for people with the same problems but I though I would get a fresh perspective. Basically the 5.1 kit came with five satellites and a sub-woofer, with a built in amplifier, which could be nicely controlled. From what I've gathered, I will need to replace the subwoofer and the amplifier, but I've no idea which brands to go for or what kind to get, or how to wire them. I'm thinking about keeping the existing satellites and buying a new amplifier/receiver and a good sub-woofer, and then replacing the satellites over time with nicer speakers. For example: Sony STR-VA333ES 7.1 Channel Receiver, Original box, good condition | eBay But I'm really confused about sub-woofers? What is the difference between passive and active? The sub-woofer that came with the 550 was big and sounded great, ideally I'd want something similar. Cheers, - Calvin
