  1. Hello chaps, I'm a newbie on here, but a longstanding hifi pervert. Before I joined the army I worked for a hifi/home cinema chain in the UK, and have maintained links with a number of manufacturers' reps and sales types. My current system is a mid 2009 macbook pro running. OSX mavericks, itunes 11 and bitperfect > chord silver UsB > Musical Fidelity M6 DAC > chord sig XLRs > leema tucana II > chord signature > monitor audio platinum 200s. I'm pretty happy with the sound, and got into the CA world when I discovered that my MBP as a server just annihilated my 1500 gbp transport, and a couple of others i tried. However, as part of tidying up my system under domestic pressure and in the hope of further improvement I'm considering a headless mac based server that will be hidden away, again connected with usb to my dac. The obvious solution is a mac mini with a few judicious mods to the power supply, removing antennae and so on. However, I've seen for sale a number of powermac g5s and mac pros for 25-50% of the cost of a mini. In terms of convenience, I want to be able to run itunes 11 with the remote app on iphones, ipads etc. So my question to you lot is how does the g5 or mac pro sound compared to a mini? Is there a proven upgrade route for these older machines? Anyone done it? Cheers, Tim
