  1. Just received a BDP-1USB a couple of days ago. I already have a Bryston BDA-2 dac and this combination sounds great. Sq has improved in every aspect from my music-server-only 2013 Macbook Air (8gb memory) with the latest Audirvana+. I just plugged in my wd 2tb usb drive and the improvement in sq was not small. Considering the price difference between mba/a+ (appx. $1300) and bdp1usb ($1800), my vote goes to the bryston any time. Plus customer service from James Tanner and the folks at Bryston is top notch. I am a happy customer.
  2. absolute sound may be a phenomenon but i am doubtful that any of us could experience it in the universal and absolute way, due to the uniquely different way each individual perceives and interprets sonic data. i think the fun is in the process of finding out how to manipulate minute details of various parameters then go bananas with the findings. it's fun if we somehow find out a way to not throw feces at each other while doing this....or does it actually make the whole thing more fun?
  3. even studio gear has "colors" and "house sound". lavry, apogee, grace design units all sound different with varying degrees of resolution, presentation, and etc,. old dennon broadcasting cdps are cheap and good with great connectivity options, if you dont mind using cartridges. used lavry or apogee mini dac plus dennon would be under a grand. good luck.
